  • Walz is what gives me hope.

Harris taking up the candidacy was great. It felt good to be listened to but the hype wore off quickly as you realized that the party itself had not changed, only the face. She's also been quietly changing her stances on some issues, shifting around center right. The Biden-Harris administration does have its own achievements but it tends to feel like the rest of the Democrat party where you're voting more so for ideals which may or may not be implemented. Walz is more than talk though and it's not like he hasn't faced some of the same hurdles that other Democrats have either.

Walz is entirely what keeps me from feeling like I'm just voting to keep Trump out right now.

  • A lot of people seem to be missing the point.

There is nothing wrong with sex work or having an OnlyFans. There is absolutely a lot wrong with the fact that the top athletes of our world who perform on the top athletic stage of the world are destitute to the point of having to fund themselves this way. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe anyone should have to use this as a last resort either but it's very telling of society as it currently is when these people are having to do so.

  • There are lawyers that operate through contingency fees but you would have to be very foolish to immediately do so as a solo practitioner. Usually a firm will handle the risk but the firm also isn't letting inexperienced attorneys handle those cases due to the risky nature of them.

The legal jobs that are at the bottom of the paygrade are usually government. Prosecution, public defense, administrative. A lot of those jobs have loan forgiveness plans and the usual government job benefits but the pay is a bit down there even compared to what you would get as a first year associate in some firms.

  • We need an entire legal reform but right now we really need to focus on the SC since that's where the most damning issues lie with the nation as a whole.

  • I hate how true this is.

What's worse is that many of the people who didn't fall into that trap have been waiting to responsibly have children later, which I also don't want. Finding anyone down here that is interested in being child free down here is a challenge and finding someone who doesn't expect to have a busy life to make up for it is even more difficult.

  • I’m shocked at how incompetent a public speaker he is.

Such is the way of authoritarian regimes.

Being a part of the GOP when Trump took over really came down to just agreeing with the man blindly and letting him treat you how he pleased. Trump can't stand to share the spotlight with anyone else meaning people in the GOP most likely aren't getting any experience as most of them share their big moments with the orange man who takes over immediately.

Most of these people have no personality outside of supporting Trump and they aren't capable of much either because they would make Trump nervous.

  • Biden already made an admission that he knows these issues are going to occur.

Acknowledgement and action are different though. I assume that we're going to fuck around and find out because no one wants to get confrontational with the Republicans over it.

  • He's probably nervous regarding GOP fearmongering.

Any attempts by him to shore up security around the election will be labeled by Republicans as tampering and he probably doesn't want to be responsible for anything to come out of that especially if he's going into retirement after this term.

Obviously they're going to fearmonger regarding election results anyways despite being the ones who are more than likely going to attempt to alter the results but it'd still be adding fuel to the fire that he'll have to deal with. Don't really need to have the entire discussion on Republicans, their lack of logic and Democrats sometimes not quite being up to the task of dealing with the dumb fuckery put forth by them.

He'll have my utmost respect if he goes above and beyond to do this anyways though.

  • Can people give it a rest already? I don't know why Lemmy users feel this need to get upset at people for doing what they want/need them to do.

Yeah, perhaps people should show more interest in being informed in current politics but at this point just take the W. The last thing we need right now is for blue voters to start pushing other people away from voting blue due to their attitudes.

For those of you who already understood the stakes surely you also understand that now is not the time to be dividing Kamala's supporters over petty feelings like this.

  • It's a shitposting meme. The poster has this pinned on their twitter:

That said... I have heard horror stories about poor theater staff finding cucumbers after the 50 shades premiere. Some of it was just people memeing and trying to prank but I'm not entirely sure about all of it.

  • Even if AI was absolutely impeccable it will always feel better to use products that involve real human beings.

  • People aren’t going to like the reality that we need BOTH people to change their habits AND we need companies to follow suite.

    Jon Stewart said it best.

"The work of making this world resemble one that you would prefer to live in is a lunch pail **** job, day in and day out, where thousands of committed, anonymous, smart, and dedicated people bang on closed doors and pick up those that are fallen and grind away on issues till they get a positive result. And even then, have to stay on to make sure that result holds."

  • It's like a lot of things in life. It depends and it can be complicated.

Upfront costs for infrastructure besides the panels themselves is expensive and in places where electricity is already cheap companies won't bother.

You also have to conduct tests to ensure that the grid and transformers can handle more power, and if they can't then you have more infrastructure that needs upgrades.

I'm not saying we shouldn't do this. We really need to in the long run but it isn't something we can simply snap our fingers and do instantly.

Also, a lot of the unprofitability comes from VC culture in my opinion. The individuals at the top of businesses often times won't stick around with the business long enough to start see the savings from solar energy.

  • I'd be worried if he wasn't getting backlash. Actually, I'm still worried because there clearly isn't enough backlash.

We all know what he's insinuating.

  • Not entirely sure that matters here.

I really don't think there's that many people towards the middle or left of the political spectrum that are going to be upset about this if he gets the changes through.

Besides, any changes that might bother voters will still have an effect on Kamala's campaign until the elections over in November.

  • I'm not complaining but I'm genuinely wondering if the dnc has been holding this woman back. I feel like I haven't seen this fire coming from her before and I'm loving it.

  • Couldn't agree more and his words on the matter were really touching.

I just hope the party as a whole can keep this up. I have never felt like the party cared more about being in touch with the people than it does now.

  • People are like that sometimes.

Unless you want to take the conservative approach of attempting to eliminate anyone who stands against you, then you unfortunately have to learn to understand and work with these people. We do not exist on our own. We exist with many, many other people who have different views than our own, who react and think differently than we do.

Part of life is learning how to work with these people, how to get them to do what needs to be done. You can sit there and scream at them for being stupid or you can figure out how to get them to do what you want.

  • It's time to move on. There isn't any President who will stand in Israel's way of the horrors they're enacting in Palestine.

For now we work to prevent Trump from furthering Israel's genocide even more or committing worse here in our own country. Unless you're one of those people who genuinely believes in accelerationism which isn't going to work out the way you think it will.
