  • Uh we’re already well aware transphobia exists. What kind of stupid freeze peach take is this?

  • It’s sad you felt the need to post this, and even sadder that it’s just wrong, unscientific garbage.

  • Isn't this what safe spaces are for though? Developing ideas and emotions without fear of normie criticism. You can talk about your private political issues and thoughts (what it's like being trans, how to properly do socialism) without judgment or needing to explain yourself to outsiders.

If you disagree with the basis for the safe space though (trans liberation, Communism reading circle, etc.) then of course you won't be welcome there.

  • “Constructive dissent” can occur in safe spaces. What’s unwelcome is unconstructive dissent.

I think the idea that people should have their views challenged all (or even most) of the time is pretty silly.

  • For sure. People who are opposed to safe spaces are typically opposed to what the space is safe for; they are all for their own safe spaces, and indeed tend to be quite militant about forcing spaces to be safe for their opinions.

  • This is overall very true but the transition even for Apple was anything but smooth. There was a long period of time during which app support for ARM was pretty hit or miss. Happily that period is just about over and now everything is built for all archs.

  • Wow, it's hilarious you're accusing other people of living in an echo chamber.

  • If you got suspended for Reddit because of hate speech, maybe it's time to self-reflect about why everyone thinks your speech is hateful, rather than trying to find more and more awful and esoteric places in which to speak.

  • I’ve never heard of that and it sounds like I don’t want to!

  • I'm not on this instance but I have been paying attention to what's going on, and I feel like a lot of the drama is being amplified by bad-faith accounts that are not contextualizing accusations but instead using judgments like "ableism," "racism," and "defense of chasers." While in a certain lens those accusations are accurate, that lens is very distorted; it ignores all context and assumes bad faith from all participants, which I don't think is warranted.

I would guess a lot of the Hexbear users also have alts on this instance and are just amplifying the discord since that's sort of their raison d'être. I imagine it'll all blow over as they get bored and go back to Hexbear.

  • Take your upvote and go home

  • I seriously doubt these people would be suing if their “investments” had gone up in value. They speculated and they lost; claiming Sotheby’s misled them seems absurd when millions of people were shouting from the rooftops that ugly JPEGs are worth nothing regardless of how much math is done to them.

  • Uhhh, but they're wrong, right? Like, Democrats are voting for affordable health care, queer rights, and women's rights... and Republicans are trying to take all that away. Even if they're convinced Democrats are worse, they're still wrong and we can reasonably say they're indulging in Christian fascism to control the people they don't like. In fact, that's explicitly what they're doing.

  • I dunno, they seem to be totally okay with this since they keep voting for it. In what sense is "not all Republicans" a reasonable response when, again, they vote for this and continue voting for it?

  • Yep — it’s Christian fascism. They want to use the power of the state to control people and hurt who they don’t like.

  • This is a good way to put it and one of the reasons I'm so perplexed about how queer the instance is. I genuinely don't understand how LGBTQ+ people can simp for regimes that simply want to/wanted to murder them.

And before someone jumps in with "but America/the West/liberals are trying to do the same thing"... if you don't think it's easier being queer in the US, even with all the problems, than in Russia or North Korea, I just don't know what to tell you.

  • Yeah the "whAt AbOuT UkraInian FASciSm" thing is pushed really hard over there.

  • Yes, seems reasonable to me!

  • It sounds like you know the best solution for it… but it’s painful to implement.

You either have it be able to listen to the music without it triggering you, or avoid that trigger. I don’t really know if there’s a third option.

That said it sounds like you might benefit from actual professional consultation on this issue. Therapy is quite common when overcoming strong addictions. Maybe a councilor can give you some additional insight into other solutions.
