  • Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but since I've never heard of a Jamaican Revolution, so I'm guessing they also won their independence without bloodshed.

LGBTQ rights I feel like have made huge strides without violence. There was the Stonewall riots, of course, but since then most of the rights have been achieved mostly through normalization and exposure through pop culture and stuff like that. Of course, some people are trying to rewind those, but conservatives are like that with all rights that aren't specifically for white men.

  • Even if a cop is on a power trip if you ask them they will help you.

I was with you until about here. I've seen cops shoo away people in need rather than even deign to give directions. I would say the majority I've seen have been very unhelpful and the encounters that have been nice or cordial have been the extreme minority. It's like their default is power trip mode.

  • It's already been hurting them a lot it sounds like. I don't think Baldur's Gate is the first game to not release on Xbox because they couldn't achieve system parity with the S. If they've really softened on it, then that's a good idea. Better late than never.

  • As I was reading the blog post, I asked myself why a soft fork would be necessary and I'm glad to see they came to the same conclusion by the end.

This is the first I've seen of the community following communities idea as a solution to the separation of similar discussions among multiple instances, and I love it. This combined with the personal user curated multi-reddit ideas and we're golden. I wish I knew Rust so I could help make it come to fruition.

  • Reddit has definitely had cultural significance. That's why AMAs used to happen there so often and it was in the news for months after the Boston Bomber. It's like 4chan in that it seems super niche but it pops up every now and then in the cultural zeitgeist, sometimes for bad reasons like The Donald leading the charge for a Trump presidency and sometimes for good reasons like the niche hobby subs.

  • I've noticed the same thing and it certainly has helped me skip Reddit more. The front page is 50% or more are validation parts from pretty people on rate me, am i ugly, roast me, outfits, weddings, etc. There are still fun drama threads for people like me who like those, like AITA or TIFU, but a lot of them seem somehow faker and more bot-filled than before.

  • I've spent all today and yesterday trying to get this working with PureVPN and QBitTorrent and it hasn't been working much at all 😭. It's been painfully slow when it works at all, which has been rare. Although it has been doing the job of hiding the Docker container IP so that's good, and it makes me think it's something minor, like port forwarding not working because of PureVPN or something off with my settings, or it's a qBittorrent issue, or Docker and Linux inexperience.

Admittedly troubleshooting has been slow because I'm super new to Linux and Docker and keep running into permission and file system issues. Running the VPN and torrent straight in my computer was way easier, but I'd really love to be able to run Plex and a torrent client on the same computer on at the same time with Plex not going through the VPN and the torrent client going through it, which is what this seems great for.

  • Seriously, I was about to say that tracks with politicians everywhere, from the ones dealing with climate change in the US to the ones trying to undo encryption in Europe. I'd be more surprised if politicians ever did base their decisions on science.

  • It'll take me awhile to go through all them lol, but thanks for all the sources. You're one of the few people I've seen from lemmygrad or hexbear not just immediately default to ad hominem attacks, trolling, and pig poop balls, and I appreciate the actual attempt at a discussion in good faith instead of shouting "racist lib" and running back to your echo chamber to make fun of how clueless all us libs are. I appreciate it.

Some good points there, but I will say, you're acting like the West are the only civilizations which have ever committed atrocities, which I think is a mistake to make. Every large group of humans have been capable of doing such horrible things, as we've seen in wars and such all over the world.
