  • Life is only better in China economically (even this is debatable), but people care about many other aspects of life as well. The limited liberties that the Chinese people had in 1999 are disappearing quickly.

  • I don't disagree with you (apart from maybe $5k being a pocket change in Russia), we need to reduce inequality and bring back financial security in our societies.

There seems to be a small misunderstand on your part though - this baby bonus is not trying to increase fertility, at least not directly. The main goal is to reduce child mortality. The main beneficiaries of these bonuses are low income families, and for them every little helps. It's also just one part of the support system, as all of the countries from the article have other welfare systems to accompany.

  • No need to nitpick because you're comparing apples to oranges, so I'm trying to understand what you even mean by social security and pensions. All the EEA countries provide free or accessible health care and state pensions by the state and/or military. And the reason why you're statement doesn't compute for me is because a lot of the "big ones + scandinavia" are conscription countries that provide everything while you're in service and you would get military pension if you decide to stay in the army professionally after your mandatory time is over.

  • I think you misunderstood how the report works. The rankings are from people answering the poll using cantril ladder scoring. Then academics try to look at different statistics in that country to try to explain why people gave their country that score. The academics don't score the countries.

  • Unfortunately the data doesn't support your thesis. child birth graph Haredi jews are having more than double births than the average Israeli Muslim.

Combined (secular etc.) Jewish birth rate is on par (slightly higher) than Israeli Muslims and Palestinians in Gaza. (This was even before all the bullshit started last year)
