  • That's what they should be doing, but it isn't what they're going to do, unfortunately.

Kimathi Bradford, a 16-year-old Oakland tech repair intern, has looked into whether there was a way to replace the outdated Chromebook software with a non-Google brand, but it ended up being a lot of work, Kimathi said, and the open-source replacement wasn’t up to par. “It’s like the Fritos of software,” he said. “No one really wants to use it.”

Now, I'm not sure if what they tried was Linux, but I wouldn't be too surprised. The younger generations grew up with smartphones; I feel as though operating systems will become more streamlined and opaque as time goes on. I suspect we'll have to contend with the phonification of mainstream computing in the coming years.

  • just a quick fyi, you're posting in a beehaw community. you can call out whataboutism without leading with "fuck off".

  • It makes me sad. If they just spent a fraction of the effort they use to tear things down to build something worthwhile up instead, we'd be much better off.

  • This is Beehaw, we expect you to be(e) nice here. Gatekeeping isn't nice.

Besides, there are people who play games that are of all skill levels and time constraints, and they deserve to be able to enjoy games as much as you do. Have some compassion.

  • I went to Anime Boston with a few friends back when I was living on the east coast. I brought my 3DS and received TONS of Streetpasses. I definitely had a lot of fun, even if I'm a bit of a casual regarding anime. I also felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb because I was one of the few people not in cosplay. I never have been able to do cosplay, really. I won't do male characters for obvious reasons, and I never really thought I could pull off female characters. Maybe I can now, I dunno. One of these days I'm going to cosplay Aerith, damnit!

  • I'm on Mastodon, myself. When I first signed up, I joined mast.o, but I wasn't really feeling that, so I did more research, found retro.pizza and realized that it was perfect for me.

Quite frankly, every server should have a "No Nazis, no TERFs" rule at the very top.

  • I like candidates that don't aspire to be tinpot dictators.

  • Former Fox News personality Megyn Kelly said she no longer has empathy for people experiencing gender dysphoria. “There should be a healthy measure of ridicule,” she told Kirk during a lengthy discussion about trans people and the erasure of trans rights, which Kirk said is a “winner politically for Republicans.”

    These people are fucking ghouls.

  • Definitely extrinsically. In a lot of those super open games, I get just completely overwhelmed by choice, don't know where to go or what to do, and give up. I've tried twice to play Breath of the Wild and I just can't. Give me a linear experience any time.

  • I don't mind Calibri, but Aptos does look like an improvement. I particularly like the serif added to the lowercase L... it has always annoyed me how that and uppercase I look exactly the same in many fonts. It's one of the reasons why I'm partial to fonts with serifs.

  • Can confirm. Trying to boymode in the office has gotten more, uh, interesting as my chest gets bigger.

  • Corporal punishment is a vile, barbaric thing. I was fortunate enough to grow up with parents who didn't believe in it. We weren't better off in the 50s(maybe financially, if you happened to be white) and I am sick of these people who are trying to turn back the clock.

  • It's easy to fall into the trap of "They're millionaires, why should we care if they make a few less millions", but there are tons of people in Hollywood that are barely making ends meet, or having to take a second job to do so. Furthermore, even rich labor is still labor, and a rising tide lifts all boats. I hope the Hollywood studios really end up taking it on the chin on this. Their greed is insane.

Support all unions(except the police union).

  • I burned out on PB&J after basically getting stuck eating it for lunch for most of my childhood. I think I've eaten less than 5 PB&J sandwiches in the past 15 years. But, yeah, not a big fan of jelly, but I do like occasionally putting jam on my toast.

  • With the sheer amount of books they have on record, it's pretty much impossible to vet them all. So I'm not terribly surprised some nazis snuck some in. I am, however, disappointed that some retailers didn't immediately yank them out of stock. Honestly, I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see a version of The Turner Diaries on some of those sites. They really don't give a shit.

  • Thankfully, most companies kinda turn a blind eye to piracy of their back catalog. It's really mostly Nintendo that gets all bent out of shape about it, and, honestly, they bring it on themselves for essentially vaulting many of their classics(like most of their GameCube games, for example). It really doesn't help they they slow drip the releases so that only the same old few games are available at launch(I don't want to play Clu Clu Land or Urban Champion, Nintendo... and I'm someone who likes those black box NES games more than most). Hopefully Nintendo Online solved that issue, but I doubt it.

Anyway, it's not like anyone is going to miss, say, Major Minor's Majestic March for Wii. I would like to encourage companies to release more of their stuff, but realistically, it's out there for anyone savvy enough to get it. We need to fix this stupid broken copyright system.

  • I'm happy for you! I suppose I should eventually get mine pierced, but it's not a priority and right now I really don't want to spend money.
