  • Very nice, yeah that's the problem. I broke into AIX in the wholesale industry in early 2000's so I have very few finance connections, which is where it all seems to be.

I have also been work from home for 7 years now and figured I'd have to go onsite for banks. That may have changed post covid. I will poke around and see what might be out there for me

  • To be fair, everything is made out to be an grueling challenge by YouTubers.

"you won't believe what happened next, I had to walk to the bus stop! " thumbnail with shocked face and big neon words

  • Hmm I have the AIX half of that. Maybe learning COBOL is worth the pain..

  • This has been absolutely beyond infuriating I can't even block it properly from Connect. Agreed this is nothing but pollution spam

  • And also not updating them when things change. The recovery process for a database changes considerably once it's involved in replication, which one client found out the hard way.

  • Know a manager of an oil rig.

Away from friends and family for months at a time, extremely dangerous, 12+ hour shifts, constantly dealing with issues with staff and all around miserable and stressful. Said he wished he had gotten into literally anything else.

  • You had me at Montreal in the first sentence lol

  • Some of the premium ones are self heating so you just can add bottled water

  • Yeah it's been 20+ years since I worked retail but we weren't allowed to confront anyone, especially inside the store. We had to wait until they left the store for a manager to approach them and we had to be 100% sure they stole something in the first place.

The worst I ever saw happen to someone is they gave it back when confronted outside the store, it was a $5 can of automotive spray paint.

I was never quite sure if this was all legal reasons or because of the blowback against the brand if someone was wrong and it made headlines.

  • See exhibit A: Cable TV

  • Correct because the connection to usenet these days is with SSL, so the ISP is in the dark of what is being transferred.

If you'd rather your ISP not know where you are connecting you can get SABnzbd dockers with VPN built in that will killswitch if the VPN drops.

I do the VPN anyway because that's how I set it up years back, and I just like the layer of privacy.

  • I use NoMachine as well as it has been the most responsive solution for me.

My biggest problem that I finally figured out was that NoMachine was attaching to a VNC console instead of creating its own display when I was using it with Unraid VMs (KVM)

  • I'm more impressed you have multiple phones handy in order to be able to do said photo

  • I dunno, I immediately though of something like Obregone, México. Great food, just have to roll the dice on if you can survive making it to the restaurant and back.

  • Not yet but apparently it's coming. Unfortunately for now you have to save it and check back manually

  • Emergency emergency

  • I had this happen to me in Canada but the bite had swollen up to the size of a softball. Most painful bite of my life - like searing white heat agony.

Anyway, drove 15 mins to the closest clinic and got in within 20 minutes. Gave me a course of antibiotics and told me to go to the hospital or call 911 if it got worse.

  • Yep cooking bacon slowly is the holy grail of perfectly cooked bacon
