  • As a quebecer, because he's a demagogue populist asshole and an awful administrator who's currently stuck in a couple of mismanagement scandals. Plus he keeps fucking up Montreal with each new budget and I'm not even gonna start on the religious laws...

He only managed to get elected because the local liberals were in shambles and the Parti Quebecois has lost itself and its appeal when QS came in. He is a symbol of the aging voter base and at least he's stable in his bullshit I guess...

Thing is, he's not an idiot and has been skirting the line of acceptability for the longest time but now it seems the karmic balance is finally bringing back the shit he threw back at him

  • DON'T LET PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF GOOD

Vote red but keep the pressure on them, talk to your representatives and make your voices heard, because you know that the CPC won't care what you say, they never did.

First step is we elect a Liberal Government. Second step is we continue the fight and put pressure on them for proportional representation, de-americanizing our cloud infrastructures, gaining our independence and making our country stronger in the face of the world's instability.

We need to build, we need to make alliances, we need someone that has strong negotiation skills.

Plus, as others have said, if you don't have to vote Liberal because you're in a place where the Conservatives have no chance, it's ok to vote with your heart/morals etc.

  • All they care about are

    • Lower Taxes
    • Religious Extremism
    • Guns
    • Petrol

Let's be real, most of those folks are probably traditional white Bible Belt Conservative that would love to go back 60 years in the past.

We really need to be careful though because the left in the US underestimated those and their money and influence, we cannot do the same here and let them sneak their way into power.

  • Oh it's not just you. Worst thing is we've got a first past the post system so far from proportional...

There's a lot of movement right now to bring proportional representation and it's been on and off an election promise that's never been kept but I think it's still very early and I'm not holding my breath that we're gonna get it this cycle....

  • It's basically the same system as England, it's based on it so yeah.

We elect a party to power, then that party appoints ministers from the elected people and normally the appointed Prime Minister is the leader of the winning party.

In this case, the last PM stepped down and in doing so, the House of Commons was "put on hold" while the party elected a new leader. The Governor of Canada then appointed that new leader as PM so he can assure the transition but he needed to trigger election before the House of Commons work resumed which was today.

So now we get a snap election of 36 days to appoint our new government but in the meantime, Marc Carney is the acting Prime Minister.

  • What they anmounced is that they are expanding the current plan to allow people below 65 to apply.

    https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/dental/dental-care-plan.html

Like, all you guys complaining about it either seem to not actually read about the subject or get your information from very biased sources.

I'm not saying this plan is perfect, I'm not saying your lives are perfect and that you don't deserve a true universal dental plan but the subject is far more complex isn't it? Because health is managed by provinces and it's super fucking political when the federal government touches it... it took a lot of work from Jagmeet Singh to get just that expansion of the current plan.

Stop with the fucking cynism and fight for better instead of whatever the fuck you guys are doing in this thread.

  • You're priviledge enough to have access to dental insurance coverage. That's more than the majority of Canadians. These types of programs are for those who can't afford them.

It targets the most needy, you're arguing for equality, this is not equality, it's equity...

I'm I saying your life is perfect? Nope, I'm sure you could get better dental insurance. But you're in a position where you can argue, poke your employer about it, it's already offered to you.

Old people and poor people are not in your position, they can't have it.

Plus, if you went to the dentist twice a year, like you're supposed to, I'm sure your coverage would pay for itself easy.
