  • I'm surprised that the rates are as high as they are. TOS had only 1 female character in the main cast. TNG (after Tasha left), DS9 and ENT only had two. So disregarding any guest characters the female main characters don't have a lot of choice of whom to talk to, if they want to pass the test.

  • If you're not just looking for novels I would like to highly recommend two non-fiction books: "The Fifty-Year Mission: The first 25 years" and "The Fifty-Year Mission: the next 25 years" by Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross. The books tell the oral history of Star Trek up until 2016. They consist entirely of interview snippets from cast and crew, sorted chronologically and thematically. It's a super interesting look behind the scenes.

  • That's why I'm always annoyed that pretty much all of the "big" YouTube phone reviewers spend so much time on the camera when reviewing phones. I'm much more interested in the UI/UX and software features.

The camera is either good or great anyway. That isn't really a selling point for me.

  • Nobody dislikes Star Trek as much as Star Trek fans.

  • It's already there. Tap on the profile icon in the top left corner, then tap "remove ads".

  • Alternative title: "Ferrari driver wants a shot at winning a race" 🥲

  • My guess would be because of the reach?

I use neither Mastodon nor Twitter (I've never understood the value of microblogging) but one of them is freely available, the other one is restricted. In my view – as someone who has no account on either platform and only occasionally goes there if it's linked somewhere – Mastodon has a much wider reach.

  • Oddly enough there is a mastodon instance run by a German federal agency: https://social.bund.de/

No idea why the chancellor doesn't use it.

  • I think this solely refers to the "containers on a blurred background" style. They both do look somewhat similar (but not really identical).

  • Yes, the new one looks nice and clean. I think a bit of padding really helps to make it look modern. (yeah, I know this will ruffle some feathers because some people apparently prefer 0px padding on everything)

One thing that always irked me a bit about the old "comment reply" window is that it has a fixed division of the comment you're replying to, and your own reply. Maybe a toggle would be nice? (and it would also be nice if that top window would also show the text from self-posts when I'm writing a top-level comment; that way we would be able to copy/quote from the selftext. IIRC on reddit it only worked when I was replying to a comment)

Thanks for your work! Using Sync here feels like coming home.

  • Sweet. Thank you!.

Are there plans to give the "comment reply" window a similar visual overhaul to the "create post" window?

  • I presume the Bajorans had their hands full with cleaning up after the occupation so they didn't care about the name. After all, it was just a rather irrelevant ore-processing facility.

When they asked the Federation to run the station, the Feds got to decide the name. 🤷‍♂️

  • Good news, everyone!

  • Aside from the Horta, and a couple glowing space things, basically every alien in The Original Series was a quickly painted extra.

How could you forget the Alfa 177 canine? 😁 (and, on a more serious note, the M113 salt creature which was my introduction to Star Trek and which looked pretty awesome)

  • Plus some of the star dates for s2 episodes that starred Chekov where set before the star date for Space Seed.

Stardates in TOS (and SNW) are just random numbers. You can't extrapolate anything from them.

  • Or maybe Batel becomes their version of Locutus, to somehow communicate with them.

To be honest I'm still undecided whether I want the Gorn to stay this unstoppable force of horror, or to find a Trek-style form of coming to some sort of peace agreement. In that aspect I liked how Admiral April tried to keep Pike in check at the beginning of the episode.

  • Oops, you're right. Ortegas is there too. I completely forgot about her since she got Travis-Mayweather'd so much this season.

  • Seeing that every one that will not be in TOS is now in Gorn hand’s I think we already know why.

M'Benga and Sam Kirk show up in TOS though. The only one in danger is La'an. (and I'd be pissed if something happened to her because I think that Christina Chong is a super strong actor, and possibly the breakout star of this show)
