The speedtest requirement is to ensure that you can seed effectively. Its for the overall health of the network not so they can geolocate you. If geolocation was a concern, then your IP would be plenty.

RED is so not a honeypot. Y'all paranoid. If your threat model includes hiding your IP from one of the most respected private trackers in the game, then you should probably stick to public where they don't care if you use a different VPN every time you log in.

Many of the good private trackers have very active request sections too. Really obscure or old stuff may not be readily available, but with a decent bounty (if required) someone will probably be able to find them for you.

The economy on MAM is mostly points based and you'll generally get very little organic upload. You only need to download some freeleach stuff (or use freeleach tokens) until you're getting enough bonus points hourly to meet your needs. Upload credit is actually very cheap to buy with points and VIP status isn't that expensive either. Plus the community generally donates a ton of points to all new users - even more so if you're at all active on the shoutbox.

If you don't want to donate 5$ to the website you need to wait 4 weeks before you're eligible for VIP, and a lot of content is locked behind VIP. Fortunately though after the 4 week waiting period its very easy to keep VIP all the time. Even easier if you don't want to keep VIP all the time and only need it once or occasionally to download specific content. All VIP content is freeleach to VIPs and locked to VIPs only. This incentivises people to be longstanding active members of the community and not hit and run after grabbing one or two books they were looking for.

At the end of the day, Ada never intended this instance to be explicitly in favor of any particular political view. Its a queer friendly instance first and foremost. Queer people aren't always going to agree on every political subject. Obviously the degree to which room can be made for different political views has it's limits. Fascism and conservativism clearly have no place here, for example, but that's really not what this is about.

Do I think MindTraveller's behavior is abusive and inflammatory? Probably. But whether they should be banned for it isn't my decision, nor is it an easy one when from their point of view LibertyHub is causing active harm to the queer community. I don't agree with that opinion, but they should be allowed to express it in a respectful manner.

To be honest, I mostly agree with you about MindTraveller, but I think your criticism of Ada is too harsh.

If not here then where? The Admins have been supportive of LibertyHub. Any time you try to carve out a space for this kind of political content it will be met with resistance by those entrenched in imperialisms paradigms. Hopefully, through clearly defined community guidelines the level of drama surrounding it can be minimized, but I doubt it can be eliminated as long as there are centrists on the platform at all.

I'm not going to invalidate Grail's experience with Their gender. Outside of western culture, there is actually some history of gender diverse folks being culturally elevated to, or at least associated with, divinity. Grail's gender identity isn't on trial here. Let's not devolve the conversation to exclusionary language about a person's identity. This isn't about whether goddessgender is a queer or trans identity or whether we should respect Their desires when addressing Them.
