I'm hoping for this too. All it takes is someone figuring out verified boot and encryption and I'm jumping ship. Could not care less about battery life or optimization, I am rarely far from a charger or portable battery.
From my experience its a per-battery value. When I had a battery replaced on a family members device it went from 400 something down to 5. So I believe its including previous owner.
edit: OP posted an image captioned "woah we got a bad ass over here" and received over 60 downvotes, proceeded to respond to this comment saying "does it just suck being you? fucking loser."
lmfao. idk if a mod removed this guys stuff or if he pussied out but just, lmfao.
Replying to your edit; I use a custom ROM (CalyxOS) and am unsure if I have received any sort of update battery wise. My battery feels the same so far. I will be taking full advantage of Google's free battery replacement program.
It never got the maintenance update. This happened in 2022, and it made more sense financially for me to purchase a new phone than try getting my entire 4a mobo repaired (which is all google was offering me. a repair I had to pay out of pocket)
It was before and I got told that it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. I was genuinely so pissed when they announced "uhhh actually guys theres a problem we knew about haha :-)"
There really are no options for people who want smaller phones. I thought the size of the 4a was perfect, wasn't happy when I had to "upgrade" to the 6a. My upgrade path at this point is the Fairphone line and those are even bigger. Life is hard for those with small hands or elastic-band pants. (seriously my phone is constantly pulling out my ass crack cuz of how big it is in my pocket.)
Had mine since late '22. I'm at 1k cycles, so yeah. about a year. Maybe a little less, because I dont charge my phone overnight, and I only charge it to 80%.
I had to get rid of my 4a because of the bad battery thing before that went public. The charger got so hot it melted part of the port, no refund offered, out of warranty. Now you're telling me this same shit could happen with my 6a?
I know for a fact my next phone will be the Fairphone 6. Fuck this and fuck google.
Ah. I read "closing the source" and thought AOSP as a whole, not the device tree for pixels. I did hear about that, and I'm honestly kind of hoping it opens up the space for PostMarketOS to support more Pixels if the drivers need to be written from scratch. I am not a big fan of the direction Google has been going either regarding AOSP& device trees so, another player in the mobile OS space that isnt DOA would be cool. Wishful thinking.
They are not closing the source. They are no longer developing in public, the source is still being released at this time. It is speculated they will stop releasing source at some point but there is no evidence this is happening as of yet.
