  • same here man. about the lgbtq+ stuff. I just want to do whatever, but IRL everyone has to put you into a box based 100% on your physical appearance. I hate it. I don't give a shit about feminine or masculinity or who anyone wants to fuck or not fuck.

I especially hate it when I date. everyone assumes I'm this macho conservative guy... and gets pissed off at me when I don't live up to the stereotype and find out I'm socialist and don't give a shit about traditional gender roles. and the people who want to hang out with me are always conservative and traditional leaning, an the left/liberal types shun me because I don't have tattoos.

  • I mean, this is why I left a few potential partners. Because they proved to me after months/years of dating that they were going to be a financial drain on me and they could and would not contribute to the relationship financially. I want a partner, not a dependent.

Just like it's a choice to have children or not. I'd love to have a kid, or three. but it's not financially responsible for me to do so.

  • i love how common sense and self-responsibility get downvoted to oblivion on lemmy.

vast majority of millenials in my area have high wages... they just spend more than they make and whine about it. they refuse to become adults and save.

sure, if you live in bumfucksville and you are a cashier at a gas station with a HS diploma, yeah you can't save. but if you're a programmer who is 35 and living in debt, that's your own damn fault, nobody else's. where I live most millenails are the latter, and 75% of their conservations are whining about life is unfair because they can't get the 5 million dollar home in the elite town they want.

  • I've got a quarter of million in my retirement fund and it's got another 30 years to go before I retire. I'm good, thanks. I also bought a place a few years ago.

But I didn't spend my 20s partying and living in debt like many of my peers. I lived simply, paid off my student loans, and started saving. They made their choice, now they have to live with the consequences. each iphone you buy, each grubhub you order, each vacation you take... is money you are spending now that could be in your retirement account.

I'm sick of hearing about whiny idiots who refused to grow up and learn to save who are mad they have nothing in their bank accounts... because they did... they just choose to spend it all on vacations, booze, and grubhub. and i've been working steadily instead of fucking off every year or two to 'travel the world and become worldly'. if you are quitting your job every 18 months to fuck off for six... it's no wonder you're not getting a good wage.

  • you can if they are spouting cliched nonsense... but also who has the time to waste listening to partisan nutbags whinge and circlejerk?

I'd rather spend my time actively learning about shit in the world by going to the source material rather than listen to idiotic hearsay from some internet nutbags comments. but sadly, I'm in the minority there. most folks get their info from social media now.

  • that entirely depends on where you live.

and having grand-standing opinions about lgbt+ or palestinians when you live in liberal american is just that... grandstanding. I unless those folks moving to texas to try to influence elections there, they are just shouting into the void to feel morally superior. lgbt people aren't oppressed in the northeast in any real physical way apart from dealing with the occasional idiot, just like the rest of us.

  • it's a fad in terms of the hype and the superstition.

it won't go away. it will just become boring and mostly a business to business concern that is invisible to the end consumer. just like every other big fad of the past 20 years. 'big data', 'crypto', etc.

5 years ago everyone was suddenly a 'data scientist'. where are they now? yeah... exactly.

  • Yeah. I know people who talk like this IRL too. they are all under 25 and still economically dependent on their parents... while they rant and lecture about UBI is going to solve everything and you're an evil capitalist bigot if you disagree, and once they have done that they start bragging to you about how worldly they are because they just went to India/South America/Africa and you haven't been there so what do you know about the world you are clearly racist if you've done voluntourism like them.

The desperate need to feel morally superior to others is a hell of a drug. Especially when you have achieved nothing in life on your own.

  • it's not a rant. it's my experience of this site on a daily basis. mostly because i don't agree with leftist dogma like ACAB and I acknowledge the world is complex rather than simple and anarchsim won't save it and turn it into Shangri-La. I also don't think Linux is superior and all Windows/Mac users are pathetic for wanting to use command-line. And I work in tech.

but please tell me more how horrible and clearly all me, not the environment here. plenty of other comments in this thread share that same story of being attacked and harassed for not agreeing with the dogmatism that dominate most lemmy threads.

But let me be pedantic in the spirit of lemmy... I didn't start anything off. I am only replying and sharing my experience. you're the one interpreting my experience as an attack on people, which seems to be to be a manipulative tactic that amounts to victim blaming. maybe if i wore a skirt that covered my knees lemmy people wouldn't assault me, right? maybe if i just agreed that ACAB, linux is the best ever, and anyone who is LGBT+ is a divine angelic being who can do no wrong, lemmy would be nice to me, right?

  • yeah and? I'm not those governments or those people. it has nothing to do with me. and I'm sick of people on lemmy calling me a bigot for thinking lgbt+ are normal people, and not angelic saints that can do no wrong and if I get rear ended by a lgbt+ person I should pay for the damages because clearly I'm at fault for some shitty southern state's policies. Even though I don't live in that state and I live in one of the most pro lgbt+ states in the country/world.

lots of folks are oppressed. i was oppressed and beaten by my father because he thought i was gay... where is my lgbt+ oppression badge? oh right... anytime I tell anyone that fact... they tell me to STFU because clearly I'm lying and I'm trying to 'steal their oppression' or something... usually by some lgbt+ person who has led a luxurious and privileged life... and whose oppression is mostly that they aren't rich and famous and clearly I should give them my money to that end...
