25k+ users, we do practically zero moderation. Surprisingly it's pretty damn civil and great.

Would be interested in knowing what kind of future projects we’re thinking about?

Other than a potential matrix server, I do not currently have anything in mind. The future is unpredictable.

An example of a non-profit effort that I took on in the past is COVID PPE 3D printing with volunteer community printers. If something like that was needed for pandemic or disaster relief again would be nice to not have to go through the trouble of spinning up a new non-profit.

I think we can definitely work with Canadian Open Source Communication Association. Maybe swap out Communication for Community.

I've reached out to both the mstdn.ca admin as well as the CIRA.

Lemmy.ca is hosted on OVHcloud as they have a Canadian data center. If you're not specifically looking for a Canadian server, there's many other options that are priced more attractively.

I'll keep that in mind, and I've just had a realization, we can set up all the donation options and just not "cash out" until we're determined non-profit status and how we're going to set up the financial side of it.

I'm curious why you say that. Seems to work fine on Android in browser.

There will be a huge drop off to drop as part of the transition process to the new admin team we have paused donations at this time.

We're on the fence if we want to accept further donations before registering as a not-for-profit to avoid any of the funds having to run through my personal bank account.

We asked him to stick around for as long as he wants in whatever capacity he wants. Good to have his input for a longer transition period so we can carry on his way of doing things.

All the options sound great.

$137.xx right now per month. Moving images to Object Storage will slowly add to that.

We figure even without significant efficiency improvements for Lemmy we should be able to handle easily 25,000 users or so without adding more resources to that.

I've seen many people to over the fence. Not a great idea at all.

The sorting algorithm is still a bit of a hot mess but slowly getting better. To my understanding yes, Upvotes and Downvotes do make a difference.

I'm sure they'll bring more features to it soon, and their GitHub should allow you to make feature requests!

You guys are amazing and I’m more than happy with the subscribed donation I’ve given to your instance.

Just so you know with the transition to the new team all prior donation subscriptions have been cancelled and we've yet to set up a new system for donations.

We'll let you all know when we have a new system up and running right now but it's not high priority as we're well funded for at least the next 6 to 9 months if we don't have explosive growth.

I'm in favor and willing to help
