Yeah... I think most people mistake hating ai from hating the way it is implemented.
There are plenty of really good reasons to hate ai for the way it is being implemented (plagiarism for one). Or shitty companies replacing good employees that do a better job than an ai just for cost saving (short term profit, shareholders above anything).
I believe ai can be usefull especially for doing menial repetitive tasks. And it should be possible to implement ai in an ethical way so it can benefit anyone and not just leech.
But currently big tech is implementing it in a shitty way and they will find a way to enshittify ai (just like they did with social media).
Everyone is being lured in with "free" queries and when everyone is "addicted" and all of the competition has either gone bankrupt or bought they'll start charging money and make the service worse.

Yeah I agree. There has to be a bigger plan than this. In 40 years our children will see documentaties about the republicans pulling the biggest power grab ever and using idiots like Trump to actieve it. I dont trust anything that isn't fully decentralized. Bluesky is very weird in that regard, its partially centralised. I guess it's better than Twitter (but that is setting the bar very low). I still refrain from using it too often.
It will almost certainly have ads in the future and will inevitably go down the path of reddit, twitter and Facebook so I prefer to use something that is completely out of reach of the CEO if something goes to shit.

To be fair. That's what's basically been happening over the past 50 years. Just look at how we let Russia walk all over us. So it kinda makes sense for them to expect the same outcome.
Their only problem is that since Europe is basically on its own now, Europe has to choose for european produce. We can deal with one shitty dictatorship trying to push us around. But now its two shitty dictatorships so yeah that kinda changes things around (finally).

It's sad since I was on reddit since the beginning. First Imgur turned completely to shit and now Reddit has become a dystopian hellhole. I just couldn't deal with all the shitty practises and enshittification it went through. Also all the subs I liked were filled with bots and reposts ad nauseum.
Honestly I like lemmy way better BECAUSE it has less shitty people on it. Way more meaningful discussion and less shitty one liner "LOL LOOK AT ME IM FUNNY" dumbass comments.
