  • that life is safer for all LGBT folk than it has ever been before

In some ways, but not in others. The hard right around the world is ramping up attacks (both in the courts and the streets) on us. I don't mean this as some sort of gotcha, but are you LGBT yourself? As it's hard to understand the fear, pressure and threats we experience day to day if you're not.

  • In my country, I'm not allowed to carry anything that could be used as an offensive weapon. That includes pepper spray, tasers, brass knuckles, sticks, knives, literally anything that cna be used as a weapon.

I'm about to move to a new city and one of the first things I'm going to do is sign up to an MMA gym. Fists aren't much use against a weapon but at least I'll have some means to defend myself against violence if it becomes unavoidable.

  • "Wipe them off.... with windscreen wipers?"

"Well you see, it's not strictly anything to do with me, sir."

Those lines just kill me everytime. Mark Heap is one of my favourite comedic actors, he just seems to nail the whole 'strange man' vibe (check him out in Green Wing, one of his most ridiculous characters). No idea how they kept a straight face during this and it looks like the woman nearly breaks at one point!

  • There's been so, so much amazing design for this film series over the decades. Especially with regard to the sound design (known as foley). Iirc the 'pew pew' laser noises were made by tapping a taut pylon line with a hammer, and the lightsaber noises were discovered by accident when a microphone was swung near a TV set (though I could be misremembering some details there, been a while since I read the book about it).

  • Perhaps they didn't use the right words. Iirc the correct term is 'fiduciary duty'. A publicly traded company has a fiduciary duty to create value for shareholders.

The duties of some fiduciaries have been codified, for example, the statutory duty of skill and care which is imposed upon trustees by section 1 of the Trustee Act 2000 (TrA 2000) and the relationship between company directors and the company under the Companies Act 2006

  • blame the fucking British and the Americans

None of the ones who made those decisions are alive anymore. Are you going to dig up their coffins and shout at the corpses?

You make some good points though. However, we can absolutely blame actors at play today for things that are happening today. Hamas committed atrocities, now Israel is going in heavy handed and exacerbating the situation. Not sure why people find it difficult to state that. Hatred, I assume.

  • There was a very weird comedy series back in the day in the UK, called 'Jam'. Many of the sketches were surreal, sometimes quite dark, often with haunting ambient music like Brian Eno.

There's one particular sketch that never fails to do me in, for decades this sketch has amused me. I present for your viewing pleasure: Mr. Lizard it's utterly stupid and I love it

  • This seems like a simple thing to check. 5HTP is a known serotonin precursor, and in most countries is not a controlled substance.

BUT, to anyone reading this with long covid thinking of giving 5HTP a go, for fucks sake PLEASE treat it with respect & do your due diligence with regard to researching the effects and safety of it. Serotonin syndrome is real and deadly. If you are taking an SSRI, or other things that affect / increase serotonin levels then you prob shouldn't be taking 5HTP.

  • I'm genuinely struggling to think of anything. I don't have a lot of loved ones but define them with the criteria "I can be my true self around them".

I have definitely lost loved ones because they couldn't come to terms with who I am (pansexual). Many people hate you for being bi, let alone pan. My sympathies to all those who have to hide, have been there. I've lived in rough places where I couldn't even allow a smidgeon of my true self to emerge, and it kills the soul.

  • I've been learning Finnish for nearly a year. The first phrase it taught me was "Sinä olet velho". I thought it was madness to teach me "You are a wizard". Like, when am I ever going to use that?!

Later that year, I was performing at a forest festival in Finland, and a guy staggered past wearing a wizard hat. The way his face lit up when I yelled "Sinä olet velho!" was priceless!

  • It's not just the genetic predisposition (which is arguably made worse with bully XLs due to so many of the lineage being bred from a small number of very aggressive specimens). It's the size of them. They are orders of magnitude more dangerous than most other breeds when they go feral.

There is also definitely a factor at play where the sort of person to want a scary looking dog is also the sort of person who's less likely to properly socialise and train them. But it's mental to argue that say, a 7-foot tall gladiator is no more dangerous than a 5-foot tall gardener. Size and bite strength matters.

I do think there are more humane options available than just destroying them all. Muzzles in public; all dogs should really be on a lead in a public space, but especially v strong breeds; mandated training and chipping as a prerequisite of owning a dog; tougher laws that reflect if you own a deadly weapon on 4 legs that causes harm or death, you are responsible as if you carried out the attack yourself.
