  • I see now. Intriguing take you have. It's different than the way everybody else classifies things, but I guess I can see where you are coming from. In my opinion, ML theory is pretty left leaning when it comes to economics and the end goal of it, but the authoritarian plan for transitioning to it does not align with most other leftist virtues and ideas.

  • This just pretends democratic socialism doesn't exist. Like there's nothing between liberal and ML communist.

So, you are saying that if someone wants the same end goal as you, but has a differing opinion on how we accomplish that, you insult them. I'm sure you change a lot of minds and make a lot of friends with your method.

  • I hate it when ignorant people conflate Nazis and communists. I have argued with so many dumb people who think that the Nazis were a Socialist party, when the exact opposite is true. These people probably think that the DPRK is democratic, too.

  • As someone who has lived here my whole life, you ain't missing much. We have some beautiful wilderness and outdoor areas, but that's about the only reason to visit here. There is beautiful wilderness in other places, too, we just have a whole lot of it. There is really no reason to live here, unless you are incredibly rich and want to take advantage of our non existent taxes for billionaires.

  • At a previous job I had, my coworkers all made less than 50k a year. Still, every single one of them was against raising the minimum wage, because "we make above minimum wage, and if this passes than we won't get a raise." It's definitely some crab bucket mentality.

  • I am aware that not all furries are animal abusers. An uncomfortable amount of them are, unfortunately. Some of the most prominent furry 'celebrities' have been outed as zoophiles and predators, and they still have had a fanbase and are allowed to attend cons afterwards.

That being said, I am just making a dark joke. One of my good friends is a furry who calls out and protests zoophiles in the furrydom. Most furries are pretty wholesome. I just don't think we should hide the fact that a part of that community were drawn to it because they are sexually attracted to animals.

  • I agree with a caveat. If you are looking up documentation for an API or something software engineer adjacent, I think its fair for the authors of the documentation to assume the reader has a background in computer science, and shouldn't have to explain topics that are explained in computer science curriculum. Same with other documentation that is intended to be used by specialists in their respective fields.

  • I've seen you mention the oil heiress thing a couple of times. The heiress in question is Aileen Getty. She helped found the Climate Emergency Fund which is basically used to fund nonviolent climate protests like these.

The emergency climate fund also supported the Dutch protests against the fossil fuel industry that ended with the Dutch government proceeding with a plan to end fossil fuel subsidies.

The emergency climate fund has had some success against the fossil fuel industry, so I don't think there is any evidence that this thing is a psyop to get public opinion to be against climate protesters.

It's very possible that Aileen Getty actually feels bad about how her family gained its fortune, and she is trying to reverse the damage by donating to these causes. If this was a fossil fuel industry psyop, they would do a much better job at hiding who was funding it.

  • I just read an interesting research article from NASA that shows that carbon fiber survives reentry better than our previous scientific consensus claimed.

Some carbon fiber will burn up into carbon dioxide, but a good chunk of it will surprisingly survive reentry conditions. I think you are very right that it should be a better material to use for starlink.

  • I completely agree. I don't understand why there are some self-described ML types that support modern Russia. It really makes no sense, as Russia's economics and government has nothing to do with communism/socialism, or Marx, anymore.

I wonder how many Russian bots and agents have infiltrated those communities to spread that propaganda. FWIW, I am a member of a Socialist org, and there is nothing but hate for the Russian government amongst my comrades.

  • You are most definitely right that the major shareholders aren't the workers. The major shareholders are Gabe Newell, and some bankers in Japan.

Still, it is known that Valve employees are partially compensated with stock for working in the company, so most of the employees are still shareholders. They just aren't the major ones.
