  • My son is a mechanic and he likes it. Doesn't make a million dollars, but he gets by ok. There's a lot of turnover in the industry - shops get sold to corporate chains and then they screw everyone over. There are plenty of jobs available, so when that happens he's usually able to find something else within a few days. He started by getting a state inspector license from a 2 day class. Everything that has been from books, videos, and on the job learning.

  • My car insurance goes up as my car loses value. Years ago you could choose to only insure it up to a certain amount. My kids drove an older car and i designated $10k in insurance for it. That cut the insurance price to about 60%. Texas no longer allows that.

  • If i cut back a bit on spending i could retire now. My job can be super frustrating, but I like my coworkers and my i have some very fun days. I'm not quite ready to give that up. Summers and holiday breaks give me a taste of retirement and I'm often ready to see my coworkers and students in August.

ETA- one of my coworkers tried to hold out for two years after she was eligible for retirement. She had a stroke which completely killed the 'buy a boat and sail around' plans that she and her husband had spend years saving for. That scares me.

  • 1 for asthma plus 1 for high blood pressure caused by asthma and migraine meds.

2 for knee pain plus 1 for stomach issues caused by knee meds.

1 extra because i hurt my shoulder in a dumb bike accident a couple of weeks ago.

Feeling like i could trade all of these for Claritin and weed.

  • We ordered it from Costco. They have a great return policy and will pick up things they delivered if you want to return them. Plan was to buy a mid price memory foam mattress and then, if needed, keep exchanging it for the next one up until we hit our budget limit. The first one was perfect! It's been 9 years. I don't know how long beds are supposed to last. We rotate it periodically and it's still crazy comfortable.

  • Movies or theater, where the temperature fluctuates and it sometimes gets chilly, then you can wear it if it's cool outside afterwards and it's not as bulky as sitting on your coat in a theater chair.
