hey, just chiming in to say I really do appreciate your perspective -- Narrative therapy is a real tool that can help people. and yet i think by implying that a narrative is "worse" if it doesn't "work", you're overlooking the force of other systemic factors. just think about the logistics of these stories reaching people's ears. who has command over our attention? what narratives are people exposed to on a day-to-day basis? where does the power lie behind those messages? the idea that the best narrative is the one that thrives is akin to meritocratic thinking -- a demonstrably flawed system.
it's always a variety of different actors in any social process like this. it's not any one singular body. but if you want to speak broadly, no the "epidemic" thinking is not widely accepted in psychiatry anymore.
however the idea of modernity bringing new causes that increase the prevalence of certain mental disorders (which seems contrary to OP's claim) is still being explored. either way, whether it's more prevalent now or not, there's no question that autism predates its label. well, beyond the ontological question of "is it really there if it doesn't have a name", which is an admittedly important question.
so is this them trying to protect its users while adding nuance for the sake of legal protections, or is this them pretending to do that in order to profit off its users?
fun fact, that idea predates foucault by a couple decades. ironically, it was coined by a black man from Martinique. i think he called it the imperial boomerang?
I don't get your point here... Russia China Iran are behind this mess and incumbents are losing elections (to...?), but it's only the US that's bad right now? And it's the US fault? And USiams are coping for being worried about other countries?
Is that your point? Because that really doesn't make any sense.
it's been 2 days and i think i found like 2 "Yes" responses in the entire thread. one was a techy friend, one was vague, and any other hits were just family/friends.
it'd be cool if Fediverse got some more recognition but it's definitely way too niche for the normies right now
never heard of r/supressednews, what kind of environment was it?
