I think this has become such a thing because the Right has essentially taken control of current mainstream media, with them constantly doing things like giving Trump (and other fascists) the benefit of the doubt and "both sides" everything.

But the right also has a large and widespread network for their lies/disinformation/conspiracy theories on "independent media" as well. Look at the top 10 podcasts/web shows (on YouTube/etc.), or at the number of just hate "social" networks, and what amount of those push anything outside of Trump-land talking points?

The slippery slope here is that deciding who is "illegal" may vary wildly depending on who Trump empowers (legit or just some Nazis that want "safe streets") to decide this. He has had people saying just undocumented, but also people saying anyone that isn't a full citizen (so anyone here with a Visa/Green Card/work papers/migrant workers/refugees/etc.).

You also know that when the Nazis/KKK folks get to work they are just going to be grabbing people that "look illegal" or that run from them/their mob (because they look dangerous!).

This is also going to have a HUGE impact on food prices when farmers have nobody to pick crops.

Also remember that Russia has North Korea and China on its side (among others - the dictators Trump loves). Without nukes to kill everyone, that's a YEARS long war of attrition.

Also the idea of the US giving Ukraine weapons is to defend itself, so long range missiles for the sole purpose of striking the Russian interior could look to some like the US attacking Russia by proxy. And we don't want to be in a war, especially one that would surely become a World War. Trump is going to "end the war in a day" though so this discussion is really just moot anyway.

It's all the same when you believe in conspiracy theories, are not a Dr., and had a brain worm die in your head.

Also, how in the hell do we not have at least a medical degree as the very 1st requirement for a position that controls/shapes medical care for the country?!

I think the issue has been that Russia has stated that the US not having limits on the use of their supplied weapons would be seen as a US escalation of the war. And that becomes tricky because Ukraine is not a NATO country, but Russia drawing the US into the war would bring are NATO allies in as well potentially allowing WW3 (although for Trump it would be only WW2).

They did it with Brett Kavanaugh last time, and Republicans put Clarence Thomas on the bench also after trying to suppress his sexual harassment allegations, and made it a big show pretending they didn't understand.

Trump is surrounding himself with really the worst people this time around, because guess who doesn't try and pump the brakes when you're asking if you can use the US military to put down protestors, your sexual assault buddies. =(

I hate this timeline, because you just know that Trump is going to give a metal to this asshole before he leaves office, just like he did with Limbaugh.

I wonder what the amount of Trump gear vs Nazi flags was. It's also very ironic how when Nazi's march in the streets without a permit the cops just block off the street with their cars and perform crowd control to "help protect the city" (the Nazis). And when people of color march without a permit because cops killed another person over something stupid they get met with riot gear, tear gas, and rubber bullets.

I included it because the article title included it, and I agreed it never would be. I then went farther and said I don't consider any of those beside Mastodon to be Fediverse because they all are corporations creating platforms for shareholders, NOT users.

To use your analogy, It's actually more like they have the appearance of a pizza-like substance, but eating it you know it's not pizza and never will be because it's made of human waste.

Because nobody owns the fediverse. Which means if I sell an ad on my instance, all federated instances will see the ad. Sure, you could defederate from my instance. But what would happen right now if lemmy.world sold ads? Is every instance going to defederate from the biggest instance, with the majority of communities? That would essentially break the fediverse.

If it was pushing ads, absolutely! I believe the majority of us came to the fediverse to escape the ads/corporate enshitification, so the moment this stuff starts creeping in we can all just defederate them. Every admin knowing this would be the outcome I think also helps keep the fediverse "honest" as well.

This has been brought up over and over before the election. Immigrants also pay Billions into social services they can't use every year, and deporting them will impact them as well.

There are Republicans already encouraging the Senate to meet the 10-day recess necessary to allow Trump to circumvent the Senate with the Recess Appointments Clause. Which is Republicans using a rule in bad faith that was supposed to protect the process from the Senate using an excessive recess to prevent/delay a President from getting their picks vetted.

He already said as much before the election and people still voted him in. He also stated he's cool with leveling Gaza, and called Netanyahu and told him no deal until after the election, that way he can give Israel carte blanche and claim the credit for "ending the war" (ignoring the complete genocide of the Palestinians).

Just like Trump limited what the FBI could look at for Kavanaugh, and nobody did anything about that either. He also over-ruled intelligence telling him Flynn was a foreign agent and cleared Kushner also. And the list goes on, but it didn't matter the first time around, and the assholes that voted him back in are cool with it.

Trump is just putting a person between him and Putin this time around, Russia knew everything the first admin also. He hid meeting notes and visitor logs and nobody did shit, then the assholes voted him back in to finish selling us off because somehow that means "America First".

Twitter was already really bad, Musk just brought back the Nazis and fired all the people that were the guardrails.
