  • I would disagree. Linus has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth or probably say he phrases many of these discussions in very bad ways. You see this with him talking about "Is using adblocking piracy" or "Warranties are only trustworthy as the company you buy them for" (Trust me bro) or the many other controversial views he has had. Where at the face of it it looks pretty incendiary but if you ignore what he said initially and look at what he is actually meaning to say. I think the whole Billet labs' cooler thing was a stupid video and they should have done it with a 3090 TI FE as it was meant for but Linus meant it was a "bad product" because its a $900 cooler for a last gen cooler on a 1800+ GPU. Anyone willing to spend that amount of money is probably going to spend it on the newest thing, that being the 4090. Now where this comes to bite Linus in the ass is they have a preorder for a 4090 fe (for the same price as the 3090 ti one) here Which is set to release around next month or November. Now its clear many things weren't discussed but off the broken concepts that Linus was presented/or at least absorbed he isn't wrong that noone would want a exotic cooler with a last gen gpu but its clear there was a major breakdown in the communication pipeline here.

Edit: Haven't had any comments yet but I will say LTT really done fucked up with the whole auctioning off the prototype and its clear there is some issues with the organization of LTT. I don't think they did this out of malice more they had a contact who didn't talk to the logistics team or the team handling LTX. So out of mistake the prototype got sold even though they said they would send it back. That is pretty god damn egregious. I can understand why there was a fuck up but man they really screwed the pooch on this one.

  • I mean the quality of the test data is slipping but

"He’s Targeting a younger audience as they are more likely to spend money on stuff."

What younger audience has the income for an $80 screwdriver and a $200+ backpack? I think you may need to think out your point a bit more since nah I don't think they are targeting a "younger" audience those in the sub 20 category. I think they are primarily focusing on just being a "entertainment" product rather than a informative review one. They do fine with technical stupid jank shit but probably shouldn't be trusted for specs for the moment but at the end of the day I think labs will still probably be better than userbenchmark (even though that is a pretty low bar).

  • I wouldn't say fifty years. I mean there were 2 states added to the US in 6 years from 1861 (Nevada and Nebraska, I am not including West Virginia since they wouldn't have existed in a non civil war scenario). I think they saw it as a beginning of the end for them and their oh so loved "WaY Of LiFe" so they struck out when they were in theory at their strongest.

  • I'm not sure about that. I think it was more started on the fact that it was clear the Republicans at the time were aiming not to abolish slavery but to stop its expansion. Which in political terms means slave states were basically fucked as more states were introduced. Many people see Bleeding Kansas as a prelude to the civil war because it was about seeing if a new territory will be pro or anti slavery. Like yes the southern states were hypocrites about states rights but from their perspective however skewed that was. The threat of anti slavery was expanding while those who were sympathetic to it were losing power in house and senate. So secession/war over slavery was inevitable, it was merely a can the founding fathers sort of kicked down the road for others to figure out.

  • I mean yes its a technicality but its also a pointless argument seeing as most political parties aren't the same after 100+ years. Hell even in a span of 20 years, it is quite crazy to see progress since for a while the democrats basically avoided the whole lgbt topic entirely but now is one of its "pillars" for party ideals.

  • Which in a weird way is an ethical way to make porn with no "exploitation" involved with the process and there will always be a market for the "real" thing for the market. Now the AI art people can be incredibly thirsty but I do feel it is a bit reductive to say its mostly only for porn when the applications of it can be quite useful especially for hobbyists (who I feel aren't profiting solely on those creations). I see great use for generative "art" for tabletop in terms of character sheets/custom monsters/settings/ and even maps. AI art isn't necessarily a bad thing its just the fear of what large corporations will do with it that is really the scary part (also bullshit scammers who steal X artists work and try to resell it as that artist)

  • I would hope they will finally announce when EDF 6 will have a US/Euro release. Its almost been a year now with little to no news on it. Heck since I'm a PC player I will have to wait an extra 6 months or so for an actual PC release.

  • yeah my first experiences with DND were AD&D 2nd edition and wow when I started to play 5th, there were so many things that were weird. You are given so much power early as a spell caster compared to the old days. Like I was weirded out by the concept of cantrips. I was used to it being a level 1 spell dealio but now you basically get a handful of spell you can just constantly cast and then material components don't really even matter these day its so weird. Like I get it but it does remove a ton of the mystique of being a spell caster.

  • One can have objections but the reality is these countries rely on Ukraine/Russia's grain exports. So its a rock and a hard place. Realistically Ukraine ain't going to cut them off for these comments since it would be seen as a big dick move. Russia on the other hand, that is a toss up.

  • Yes but no. I'll elaborate, there is a concept called a recess appointment where if senate is on recess (which they do twice a year) where the president can fill in a temp until the end of their next session however National Labor Relations Board v. Noel Canning (2014) basically has allowed the concept of pro forma session as a valid way to disrupt a recess. So what is a pro forma session it is basically a session of senate where the President Pro Tempore (Longest running senator who handles procedure) delegates their job to a singular senator who then calls the session to an end and repeat this every 3 days and bing bang boom. You have a senate who is not on recess but is taking a break

So in a 5-4 vote, they dictated

“for purposes of the Recess Appointments Clause, the Senate is in session when it says it is, provided that, under its own rules, it retains the capacity to transact Senate business.”

So while there is technically a system to fill vacant government positions, it has been basically loopholed out of the equation since 2014.

  • I mean term limits aren't going to fix the problem. They arguably may make them far worse. It then just becomes a job of tactically making sure you secure the election of the executive branch and senate. With senate being the most important since if senate sits on their hands you sort of get a "Scalia situation". Where there will just be an empty seat until you get executive and senate to agree on a candidate.

  • Yeah and now we just have our social security numbers (if many states have their way) and Driver licenses being a nice database. Like we need a national ID system (not for 18+ material, just in general) since our current system is utter garbage because it was never designed to be used as identification material. The SSN system was hijacked for tax reasons and many banks and institution followed suit.

  • The manga is still running

That needs some quotation marks. The light novel has been on hiatus since 2018. That was 5 years ago with very little activity since. I think they may have announced the names of the new 2 volumes but the series has basically been ice since then.

  • I mean if we are using that argument a disc copy is the exact same (in a legal sense). You never own a game "legally", you only own the license. Just with the disc you have an ability to crack the contents inside it.

  • Those are not actionable items and it leads to nothing. I was certainly not saying consumers are not to blame but they are the ONLY ones that get the blame and that is systemic.

My dude, I said we actually engage in our actual electoral system as you say the most powerful lobby (the people). The people are slacking, there is apathy nearly 80% of people don't participate in the US mid term primaries. The people only give a fucking shit about the nation's talking head (Executive branch), who is powerful but we lay about and not give a single shit about the legislative branch, the people who actually get most of the work done. They are the ones who confirm supreme court justices, the ones who make the laws, the ones who can handle impeachments. I don't care about your political views, just fucking participate that is literally what we Americans need to do. So many of us don't know whats actually going on. They just listen to their fucking talking heads about the most eye catching headlines while ignoring some of the more important ones like our privacy basically being sold off and being rated out by the devices we use.

I dare say you and I wouldn’t be divided if we were engaged in actions not debating in our safe little echo chambers.

Blind action is wasted action and possibly detrimental to our cause.

  • is like blaming a person that drives a car for climate change and not people like DuPont or Delta…

Actually I do blame consumers because I feel the argument that we should only care about the output of companies sort of diminishes the impact we as consumer have in the system. Its acting like the system is doing for the sake of evil. Which I find oversimplifies the problem. Yes, companies have unparalleled power to lobby the government and that is a problem but everytime I see the comment that goes

100 companies are responsible for 90% of pollution emissions

Gives off a major vibe that your actions mean nothing since these large entities are at fault for the world's woes. While ignoring most of these companies are energy/gas corporations. We as consumers absolutely impact the profit and spread of pollution by pointless consumerism. Like did you really need to do 2 day shipping for a single item off Amazon? I'm not here to say be perfect and you have no right to complain since yeah many of these companies do underhanded tactics to gain an upper hand and will shove down more environmentally "saving" competitors if they aren't invested into these areas. Its just we need to keep in mind that our consumption also fuels this beast and we all have a part to play in this. Exporting most of your blame to corporations without also understanding your own impact on the system is not a good thing. This may sound like I'm simping for corporations but no, many corporations are seeking infinite growth in a finite world and it is slowly becoming a rat race many of us aren't going to win in.

Nah. I don’t go for this. I’m not saying we force them but coddling and playing into to “poor me” bs is again, tactics, either parroted by voters or truly believed. If you can participate in a culture war, you can participate in a class war as well.

And I'm encouraging younger voters to play a role in the nation's election system and all part of it. This goes for Democrats and Republicans. We need to unify and actually participate in this system or we are going to be stuck with crazies and these god damn fossils running this country. I feel your arguments are far more in the camp of "poor me", while I'm pointing out this is the system we have and we need to push for reform on the inside. I know people say its not quick enough or it won't do any good but this apathy bullshit is only making this country worse. War is not pretty, it is not something we should clamor for. We are sitting on our hands and saying we have done everything we can, nearly 33% of people didn't even vote in the 2020 election (who were eligible). Nearly 50% on the midterms and there was progress these last 2 election cycles and that is good there was an improvement but we need to strive for more. We need people participating in the primaries. I get it there is a ton of fucking bullshit around many states trying to make voting harder and this lead many people to throw their hands up in the air and shout "The system is rig, there is no reason to participate". We should be doing the opposite we should get angry, vote even more because the apathy approach will only lead to more restrictions on voting, we have to fight like hell for this to work or those who want to make the working class into glorified serfs will win.

  • That level of delusion is the product of decades of grooming

I mean its the fact that change is scary. Many of these peoples great great grandfathers were miners. It has been the livelihood of these communities for more than a century now. So while I'm 100% for retraining and the such its hard to convince people who see change as a negative. Stick with what you know is rather normal.

  • They may need help but the first step to improvement is admitting there is problem by the their constituents. Republicans are choosing this culture war nonsense and the constituents are eating it up. There is no simple answer to showing them the proverbial light and us trying to force a solution will only make them retreat further into these radicalized figures.

  • you but look up what happened in that district when she was first elected. Her dem opponent was threatened and assaulted and literally run out of town

What happened in her first election is abhorrent but are we going to discount she had a 2nd election she also won very handily it was 66% to 34%?

Stack on that GA being a VERY gerrymandered state and it’s a no lose for her.

I disagree with this. I'm not disputing GA is a gerrymandered state but she still had to compete in a primary election in 22. She got 69% of the vote out of all other Republicans trying for the 14th district of Georgia. There were 5 other options for a Republican house rep in district 14. They actively chose MTG and this could show us the disengagement of voters lead to these very polarizing figures taking hold and the important of participating at all steps of the election process instead of only focusing on the one big day. Life is stressful and likely full of other important things but we have to keep in mind everything we interact with is political. Its an exhausting mindset but everything we touch, do, eat, see, etc is influenced by politics, many people might not think it that way but it is. There is a reason why the topic of coal power if very contentious. We aren't using coal for the sake of being evil, we are using it because its a fucking mess. There are clearly the corporate angles but we also have to think at the constituent levels. Coal mining jobs are super high paying jobs with very minimal education requirements, something you can do right out of high school maybe even without any schooling, so those jobs lead to economic movement in those regions and if a mine closes it could possibly kill a whole town's economic backing. So that is why you have the whole "putting people back into the mines" talk on the republican end and also why Democrat Senator Manchin is very conservative even for a democrat because that is what his voters want even though he does hold up many things when dems had some form of majority rule in senate. I'm not here saying keep coal mining but this is more a point of seeing why people would vote for someone like Manchin. In my view coal is dying a slow painful death and the deregulation people are following is mostly keeping that industry on life support at best since even from a economic point of view coal is losing out to other forms of power generation like natural gas but I can easily say this since my livelihood isn't massively affected by the coal industry and the runoff effects it may have in my area

  • For her first election, yes. She is a house representative though and her term is 2 years. So that would mean in the year of 2022, she was reelected and to my memory Marcus Flowers didn't drop out. Enlighten me if I am wrong but she won by a hefty lead in 22, 66% to 34%. Like I can accept people weren't sure about her on the first election in the same way I can sort of accept Trump voters the first time (I still wouldn't have voted for that idiot but I can see why people would have) after her term though, its really hard to accept that 66% of people in her county said "This is all good". There were primaries for her as well and she got 69% of the Republican vote. So yes her constituents want this garbage.
