  • The original commenters point was to use this as an example for why Universal Basic Income is a good idea and my point is that without capitalism this doesn't work. You couldn't reproduce this to cover the cost of UBI for everyone. It only works because it lives off of a very profitable industry and services a small group of people.

  • Ultimately I agree with the Affirmative Action ruling. The Equal Protections clause doesn't say, "All racism is bad except some racism for the right reasons, that's okay." it just says there is to be no discrimination based on race.

Affirmative Action was racism with good intentions.

  • "If that Christian customer instead asks for a blank cake that they'll decorate themselves, the baker must sell it to them or else they are violating the equal protections clause."

This is an issue too though. The only person who can enforce the requirement that the Muslim Baker sell the cake is the government and the only way the government can force someone to work is through force. What you end up with is the government using threat of force to require someone to work. Which is slavery at its core. Anyone should have the right to refuse work if they don't want to.

  • Maybe it makes less sense to send them to California, but there is a non political angle to sending them to other states. Texas can't just absorb them all, every state has finite resources, and Texas is extremely taxed, especially the border towns.
