  • Wills are replaceable. You can make one set of choices now, and change your mind later and make a new Will. This is actually recommended if you have significant lifestyle/situation changes - eg. retirement or divorce or serious illness. If cost is holding you back, some Will providers do a cheapie basic version that can be suitable for say, next 10 years or so. That buys you time to do serious estate planning.

  • Back when I was in cancer treatment, a few people (actually quite a lot of people) recommended turmeric tea/capsules to help settle a very disturbed digestive system. I took ONE dose and was spitting/shitting bright yellow for several days. This never happened when I cook with fresh turmeric root which I actually like. Stick with the real thing I reckon.

  • Frost on my neighbour's roof this morning. Haven't seen that before. Grass at tramstop was white with frost except for a ring around each tree roughly equal to the canopy of that tree.

  • Also stabilises the edge of knit fabrics - especially the really thin ones.

  • Pretty much. Basically put a strip of masking tape along the cut edges, stitch to the seam allowance then rip off the tape from each side of the seam line. Holds the fabric flat and the feed dogs grip very well on it. Then it unzips beautifully. Use painters tape or masking tape as they leave no residue. Tape can be marked with biro for matching pieces together before seaming. Doesn't work too well for rolled hems though. But for doing sheer curtains or other flat seaming it's a game changer.

  • Masking tape is your friend here.

  • Yeah, back when I was starting doing these, I was told that a cryptic clue ALWAYS had two parts - one indicating the meaning and the other the method. Part of the puzzle was working out which was which. And to be alert for puns: a flower does not necessarily have roots in the ground - it could be water running downhill and so on.

  • Best clue in a cryptic I ever came across was 'Triumph for Mrs Mop" 8/7. I had _ _ e _ _ _ n _ / _ _ c _ _ r _ in the grid already. ::: spoiler answer

    Sweeping victory :::

  • Complete shit. Mostly the underwear. And vastly overpriced for the 'quality'. Don't even bother with their socks/underpants - go to Kmart/Target for those. Kmart has good bamboo fibre socks, my last lot from there has lasted about 3 years on high rotation which is good for socks I reckon. Bonds still has reasonable trackie daks and hoodies.

  • Good to hear. Was thinking about him and the kids the other day.

  • Better chance of a good outcome there than in the suburbs. Wishing her the very best of luck.

  • Autocorrect strikes again! Betcha it was 'disused'. Or possibly used for storing medical samples in petri dishes.

  • If you like phoenix feet, then jellied eels hits some of the same vibe. Eel is a red meat, and the jelly is rich in umami. One of the great 'looks like shit, but tastes great' dishes.

  • Waxing the leather will preserve it for practically forever. So waxing to match will mean that he NEVER has to buy another one. Could be a smart move.

  • Do a rat tomorrow just to be sure. Libraries still have them I think, and certainly pharmacies.

  • Grip with one hand on each side. Support lid with palms and fish around with finger tips to find the little latches inside that hold it shut. Push latch(es) in and finish raising the lid. Alternatively, raise one side by a few cms, when that releases raise the other side. Insert blue block. Replace lid until it clicks. Disinfect hands. Easy. Used to have one of these.
