  • That's okay, feel free to make the tree as gay as possible

  • Thanks, surprising but appreciate the filling in

  • Can anyone fill me in? Why is your instance shutting down? Is this permanent?

  • According to another meme, anomalocaris is one of the most recognizable creatures of the Cambrian Explosion.

Opabinia is also another extinct creature from the same time period which is closely related, and was used as evidence for the existence of the Cambrian Explosion hypothesis itself, but is presumably less well-known.

  • Each primitive has at least one Electron instance dedicated to it. The advanced version also has a locally hosted chatbot per primitive.

  • Paywalled unfortunately but the puppet regime allegedly called the Samsung Republic, not to be confused with Korea, is believed to be underreporting homeless numbers

  • This is because the DNC doesn't actually want to win, that's why they ran him in the first place, but frustratingly failed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in 2020

  • I feel this way about most things.

    I was literally struggling to answer 2 * ? = ¾ when being watched.

  • Can you remind me? I'm afraid the microchip conspiracy theory people have taken over that portion of my brain

  • Lemmy is addictive even with no algorithm or dodgy corporate ethics for example.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by this?

  • a weird parasocial relationship a lot of people have with him where everything wrong he does is just an oopsie

This is interesting, as there are plenty of other celebrities who have a sort of "cult of personality" like this. I could be misinformed but Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey come to mind. I wonder what kind of phenomenon causes this and if there is any psychological research behind that.

gaming, like every media has always been political

Good point! The way technology itself is designed can even be political. I'd highly recommend reading Langdon Winner's essay Do Artifacts Have Politics? about this.

  • I can't tell if you're being genuine or not, but there is a difference between using a swear word ever and being a hateful bigot and using slurs against marginalized groups

We just found the real political compass axes

  • This is an insult to children, who are generally willing to share and kind people, unlike these corporate ghouls

  • I've moderated a community on Reddit before and received ban appeals that look like this:

I said some mean stuff and I told them to shut up, and they were worthless. I understand it’s rude, but I don’t think that it’s enough to permanently ban me from participating in this subreddit.

Meanwhile, in the mod log, it's revealed that the banned user didn't say any of that — they actually just used the n-word.

As a result, people are sensitive that some people complaining about mod policies are actually racists that would rather lie than admit the real reason they were banned, even when the actual reason is public knowledge.

  • You do know that it's just 2 clicks to see a user's modlog, right? It's one of the options under the three dots icon on any comment they make

  • They're German, which makes it even better, as you could legitimately argue that a Jewish homeland should have been partitioned out of Germany as reparations for the Holocaust.

  • Person A: "I think the actions of the Netanyahu government are reprehensible and amount to ethnic cleansing. I think a government like that shouldn't exist."

Person B: "You can't criticize the Zionist entity, that's literally anti-Semitism"

Person A: "Well, this is a line in the sand for me that I can't cross. So it's all Jews then?"

Aren't you at all concerned that you might create more anti-Semitism when you say that? It's bad enough as it is — don't give people legitimate reasons to turn into Nazis.
