  • It's been rough adjusting to how many overcharged shots it takes to take down a charger, but it's been a blast running with some flamethrower friends.

It also gave me an excuse to bring back my rover. No, it's still not as practical as the shield, but it is more fun.

  • Mostly just "keep moving". If you spread out a bit, generally one person or group will take most of the heat while things are relatively quiet for the others. Heat team basically just has to keep running while the other team does the objective. If a bug hole opens up on the objective, run away and circle back. Chargers and hunters seem the most capable of catching up, but the hunters are pretty easy to kill. For the chargers, they seem almost hard coded to take a longer stagger if you dive out of the way instead of just moving out of their turn radius, so you can dodge a charge and gain a little more time to escape.

Don't underestimate smoke, it can be pretty handy in keeping things off your back. Call down supplies often, even if you can't necessarily get to them all. They have a pretty short cool down so don't be afraid to waste a few or take multiple if no one else is nearby. Honestly I wouldn't worry about bile titans too much unless they're on an objective (or are an objective). They can be outrun and will eventually lose interest, and their attacks have fairly limited range with a big windup.

Granted I haven't tried all this since the update so take it with a grain of salt. I do plan to try it again this weekend so I'll report back.

  • I don't think it's arrogant, I think it's actually really interesting how they talk about the "fantasy" of the game. I get not everyone plays the game for the same reason, but I understand the devs' vision of the game really being about the feel of being a hero against the odds, not having the most effecient loadout or unlocking everything as fast as possible.

  • Meh, I disagree. With the "meta" loadout of breaker, shield, and railgun, even helldiver difficulty can be relatively easy as long as you can avoid getting surrounded. If the goal is to always feel like you need to work together and barely make it out alive, these changes make sense. I personally prefer that there isn't one correct way to play the higher difficulties.

  • We'll play random little "games" while trying to get to sleep, usually without actually saying anything. Thumb wars, call-and-response tapping, spelling things out by touch, and most often, doing that stupid circle game thing while the other one is trying to hold hands.

I'll also sometimes hold my phone up to my dog's ear and he'll say "Moshi moshi, Puppy desu!" Very stupid but it cracks me up every time.

  • Honestly helpful when I'm feeling overwhelmed with my side project. I really started getting in my head about load balancing and hosting before remembering "chill, it's a hobby project literally no one is using yet. You could run it off a pi in your basement."

  • For those who might already think they know what their issue is it still helps to go and recognize it too.

To add to this, I learned from therapy that diagnosis is only the first step. There's medication but also learning techniques that allow you to function in daily life.

  • I used to be like Jarvis here, but I'm a convert. I actually was tired of using my mouse all the time, so one day while writing up some docs, I decided to give Vim a try.

Honestly, I hate to say it but, I can't go back. It's so nice to be able to do so much from the keyboard alone.

  • The difference is that, with a base FOSS OS, you're not locked in to an flavor you don't like. Dislike the way Ubuntu is headed? Switch to Debian, Pop, or Mint and use the same exact programs you're used to. If you dislike Windows 11, you've only got a few years before you're forced to switch to it. Makes it much easier for them to force shitty decisions.

More adoption of Linux also means more incentive for FOSS projects to support it. Yes, it also means more proprietary software, but the truth is that most people don't care what kind of software they use as long as it works for them. At least Linux can't become beholden to the demands of that software.

  • My own drill (and an assortment of other power tools). Part of me still feels like I shouldn't be allowed to use a drill even as an adult, but I get more joy than is reasonable from hanging stuff on my walls. Such an efficient use of vertical space!

  • I had such high hopes for HBO Max as a bastion for animation before they got completely fucked. They nuked Summer Camp Island (a very wholesome, charming, and slightly weird show) right before its final season came out, delaying the premiere more than a year and with zero notice to its creator, Julia Pott. Pott implied as legally as she could that the season would get out there one way or another, so either someone at CN has a heart or her threat worked.

And to this day they deny that Summer Camp Island, OK KO, Infinity Train (one of CN's top performing shows!), and others even existed, while cutting funding for even more shows. I'm still devastated, we had a beautiful revival in the 2010s, but now there's barely anything new on at all. So many up and coming creators utterly shafted no matter what network they work with.

All we really have left is Prime and Netflix, and god knows those aren't reliable. What a mess...
