  • Okay first of all, a lot more, maybe all Palestinians will be killed under Trump.

Again, completely vague. But while we're at it, how is that different from Dems? Have you been living under a rock? They were actively bombing, shooting, raping, and killing medicals workers in Palestine. So what do you base that "difference" on? The fact Trump said he supported it instead of "only" helping it happen?

Second of all: thanks for demonstrating the lack of intellect and thinking in these type of discussions. I literally said in my first comment that Trump was worse for America. I literally said you could be saying this shit in any thread that isn't about Palestine, and it would make a lot more sense. And yet, here you fucking are, trying to lecture me about how Trump is worse for America, as if I hadn't already fucking said it and my question was specifically about how it affects Palestine. Why are you even arguing with people if you don't even bother to read what they say?

  • Kamala vocally supported an end to the war

She also said she was unwavering in her support for Israel and would keep arming them.

Remember when Trump said he would lower the prices of groceries? Do you judge him on that, or on his actions? Why is it different for Kamala and Dems?

You know, "empathy" isn't just "I feel bad for people sometimes!". Empathy is the ability to place your self in other people's shoes. So now let's practice some empathy. Imagine you are Palestinian, and you live in Gaza. Israel has bombed your neighbourhood with American bombs. Aid has been withheld from you and your family. Other hospitals and aid workers have been bombed by American bombs. Journalists are being shot with American supplied weapons and ammo. Some of your neighbours or friends - who weren't killed - have been captured and are being raped.

Now tell me - keeping that state of mind and empathy - what fucking difference does it make that Kamala "vocally supported an end to the war"?

Can you tell me right now - concretely and materialistically, no vague bullshit - how things were/would be better for Palestinians under the Dems? I've asked this question so many times and have never gotten an answer that wasn't just vague abstract BS like "but Trump said".

It seriously astonishes me that the one situation where there is no difference between Reps and Dems (except for the words they use while doing the same thing), is the one situation people decide to shout about how much better Dems would be than Reps.

  • We're not talking about Reps though. We are talking about people who would usually vote for Dems, but because of their stance on Palestine either didn't vote or voted third party. Can you show me examples of people on Lemmy who voted third party or abstained that said Reps would be better for Palestinians?

  • 🙄

Explain to me how, then. Don't be abstract or vague. Tell me, right now, concretely and materialistically, and preferably with sources, how are things worse for Palestinians right now?

I've had this argument before and I never got an answer. Do you think it makes any difference for a Palestinian who is being shot/tortured/raped/blown up/having their home destroyed if the weapons and ammo that are being used to achieve those goals come from one American party or the other? Or did you just forget everything that was happening in Palestine before Trump was elected? Feel free to look at the links I posted.

  • It literally is a perfect example of "Blue MAGA" to make these comments in posts about Palestine, as if anyone ever though Trump would be better for Palestine, or as if the Dems hadn't been the ones in power until last November and Kamala was still "unwavering" in her support of Israel.

Here is a bit of a refresher on all that was happening in Palestine while the Dems were in power and Kamala was "unwavering" in her support.

If you don't wanna sound like Blue MAGA, go make these comments on literally any other thread about what the US is doing, not ones about Palestine.

  • I'm so fucking tired of seeing this comment, because it's just so unbelievably dumb. It would make (some level of) sense in posts about Elon taking over the government and immigrants being sent to Guantanamo Bay, but here? Like, just genuinely fucking stupid. And yet people keep fucking making them in all news threads about Palestine.

Can anyone here actually show me examples of people saying that Trump wouldn't do this? Because all I saw was people saying that Palestine is going to be fucked regardless, and they didn't want to cast their vote for someone who was going to support genocide. Meanwhile, comments like this one imply those people thought Palestine would be saved by not voting for Dems, which is a straw man.

Did you guys just forget how much happened under the Dems, and think Kamala winning would actually have improved things for Palestine? Is that it? Do you think it's somehow worse for Palestinians now?

Here is an article from July 2023: Israel Is Officially Annexing the West Bank

December 2023: Nearly 100,000 Gaza buildings may be damaged, satellite images show

9th of August 2024: ‘Everything is legitimate’: Israeli leaders defend soldiers accused of rape

30th of August 2024: Harris says she won’t change US policy on arming Israel, stresses need for hostage deal

Stop with this comment in Palestine posts already. It's seriously the dumbest fucking place you can make them. Go make these comments in a post about Trump censoring scientists or something.

    EDIT:

So many downvotes across all my comments here (at least 26 in this comment as of right now), but not a single person has managed to actually answer me. No one can show me people who voted third party (or didn't vote) saying that Trump is better for Palestine, and no one can answer how are things materially and concretely worse for Palestinians under Trump. Someone even tried to lecture me about how Trump is worse for America - as if I hadn't literally said that already in this fucking comment.

This is why people use the term "Blue MAGA"; it might not be as bad as Trump MAGA, but it's just as delusional and cult like. The one way in which Dems and Reps are the exact fucking same, is the one that people are choosing to shout about how much better the Dems would have been. If you are one of those people, next time you are thinking to yourself "why are so many people uncritical, unquestioning, believe everything they hear, and have a tribe mentality, etc.", look to yourself for the answer.

Gonna leave this thread now, so any further replies I will answer when I am back on.

  • Don’t worry, they’ll have America on their side this time.

And Russia too. Things are looking dark for Europe if things keep heading this way. And I'm still not sure what side China would take in the occasion there is a WW3, or if they would just decide to stay neutral and foster their economy while North America, Europe, and Russia just destroy each other.

  • Where does it say it's new enough to be on the floor of Home Depot?

EDIT: Not sure why I'm getting downvoted with no replies, but ok. The title and image literally don't say anything about a knob breaking on a new stove. Just people getting mad about something that was completely made up. Every day Lemmy gets worse and worse (more like reddit); can't wait for the Lemmy exodus to take me to a new place.

  • Slacktivists won’t like this, though.

Yeah, and unfortunately most people fall in that category. Just need to look at how many people say "we need another Luigi", and "someone should Luigi Elon/Zuckerberg/whoever", it's always someone else who should do something while they remain online making memes. Sometimes it's the government who "should do something about global warming, while I keep choosing to follow a meat based diet that is more expensive and much worse for the climate than a plant based one, because I shouldn't have to do anything!"

Someone else should always do something about the thing, because heaven forbid those people actually do something and give up some comforts.

  • Accepting gay people requires an open mind.

Unfortunately, this isn't true. It might be true for some number of the first people, but after that it's just another thing people learn to accept because they were told to. That's why even after homosexually become relatively accepted, you still had so much bigotry against bi people, and it's why nowadays you still have so anti-trans people - a lot of whom would call themselves "open minded" just because they are accepting of gay people.

  • Let me give you a helping hand.

you don’t understand why people are celebrating the fact that he reminded us the only way actual change has ever happened historically.

If I'm wrong and don't understand, why have none of the millions of people who supposedly back him followed suit? Why are you here instead of out there? Are you getting guns? Are you organizing with other people? Are you doing anything (praxis) towards achieving change in "the only way actual change has ever happened historically"? Or are you just spending your time online talking about it? As I said and will say again, Luigi is the scape goat of “revolutionaries” who don’t really engage in any praxis. The “I” in question (you) gets to remain at home, on their device of choice, talking about how (...) heroic the “some else” who took the risk (Luigi) is.

    You also said previously:

What’s relevant here and now is that the mass murderers up top are scared shitless, and we need to keep them that way.

I - unlike you it seems - don't want there to be "mass murderers up top" at all, or in fact for there to be anyone "up top" (totally in line with DNC/s). You say I don't want change, and that the thing you want is what affects actual change, and yet it seems you want no change other than - as I said in my original comment - for the powerful to be nicer (in this case, due to fear). Yet, somehow, I'm the one defending capitalists and being a class traitor. You also seem to have missed the fact - or just not understand - that the CEO is not the "true" capitalist; those are the owners of the companies, for whom the CEO works.

Lastly, I will reiterate one thing, and add something more relevant. If you have enough people to enact change through violence and defend yourself of the consequences, then nothing can stop you from just creating separate/parallel systems and side step the current one (the DNC totally wants you to do this btw/s). And if you actually want to go further than surface level into history, then go look at all the French revolutions as an example, read about them in detail, and see how many ended with an authoritarian in power.

If that still hasn't made my point clear, then nothing I say will; I'm ending the conversation here.

  • that the DNC has been parroting for my entire 44 years of life

Imagine thinking anything I said is allied with the DNC. Or that said anything about "incremental". Imagine reading what I said and then calling me a "class traitor" or "class apologist". You're either a bold faced liar, have the reading comprehension and politics understanding of a 4th grader, or your definition of reading is the same as that of people who "enjoy reading dystopian books" but complain about books becoming political.

  • No, he didn't. Deluding ourselves of that will just stop the problem from being truly fixed. Just look at how many people's take away from this is "maybe now CEOs will be nicer and more empathetic?". I shouldn't have to explain the problem with that, but I will expand on it by saying that the CEO is really just a scape goat; the real guilty ones are the owners, who are also the people that appoint CEOs, and who the CEOs have to please. This hasn't solved anything, and without a systemic change things will just go back to the way they were; if only because we exist in a very fast news cycle and the average person will most likely soon forget and just go back to their daily rut.

People want simple easy answers. This is true for everything, and it's no less true now. It's easy to sit at home and make memes and glorify someone else who - despite the fact I disagree with his methods - actually took action and did something, even if it meant risking comforts, privileges, or in this case even a death penalty; it makes people feel like they are doing something without having to take any real risks and without really changing anything, but it feels "effective" because it makes a lot of noise and creates a lot of headlines.

If you really want change, then more needs to be done. And sure, one way would be for more to follow Luigi's footsteps, but - and I won't even go into the pitfalls of that path - if you have enough people on your side for that to be successful and not be prosecuted/defend yourself from prosecution, then you could achieve similar societal change peacefully by community building and through mutual aid; side step existing capitalist and government institutions. But that takes actual effort; that takes actual willpower to affect real change; that requires people to be okay with losing some comforts and privileges - this is also true for Luigi's path, but the appealing part of Luigi's path is that it "only takes a few" (which as previously stated I disagree with) to affect that change, and those few get to be "someone else" and never the "I" in question. The "I" in question gets to remain at home, on their device of choice, talking about how good-looking, and cool, and heroic the "some else" who took the risk is, and make memes about it.

And that's one reason I feel so bad for Luigi. While the CEO is the scapegoat of the true (or at least more powerful) capitalists, Luigi is the scape goat of "revolutionaries" who don't really engage in any praxis.
