  • You don’t have to. The riddle is unbreakable. We as humans like to attach labels to things that can’t really have labels attached to them. Sameness isn’t really scientific. It’s just a label that we as humans have come up with. If it feels the same to you and you want to view it as the same house, do it. We just don’t need to try to justify it with logic because it’s not really a logical thing. Everyone might have a different perspective, so they might have a different answer. And that’s ok.

  • I see. And how far down does it need to be broken and rebuilt in order for it to be a new thing? If you broke a LEGO house in 2, then reassembled it, is it new? What about if you have a LEGO house with a removable roof? What if you just took off one piece and put it back on? New LEGO house?

  • Ah. So you’re saying that if you break down the lego set and build it back again, it’s a new lego set.

  • So what would make it the same construction? How are the Lego sets and the houses different?

  • I don’t see the difference in your arguments. If you take all the same pieces of the original house and rebuild it, it’s a new house. Yet if you take all the same lego pieces and rebuild the set, it’s the same set?

  • Is it a new construction if I use all the same pieces of the original house? It breaks the continuity rule, but most people would still call it the same house.

  • I’ve heard this a million times.

That’s why we want passionate people. If they’re not passionate about the product, they’ll just leave us for somewhere that pays more.

    So… pay more?

Why should you stay when we don’t pay competitively? We have difficult problems to solve.

Sure, will my landlady accept that as legal tender? Because they also have those at the other company.

  • I prefer them to not be enjoying it, nor taking it lightly that I’m losing my income and I’ll be struggling over the next series of months to make ends meet.

  • But you’re saying that if you knock down your house and build it back exactly the same, you lose permanence and thus it’s not your house anymore.

  • I took apart my Lego set and rebuilt it. So it’s new?

  • We know. We’ve known for years. Please, someone fix it.

  • How politicians view the economy: Yup, my stocks are up.

How regular people view the economy: Can I find a job, pay for rent, or afford a home? Can I pay for groceries and bills?

There’s a huge disconnect between how people try to grow the economy, and how the economy works for the people.

  • No one said they’re smart.

If they were smart, they would spend their money making their platforms more enticing than piracy. Instead, they spend it on lawyers.

  • Yup. I’ve heard many, (like the tri-colour toothpaste) and at one point I learned all the ways they were heresy.

I’m going to use that logic toward everything in my life now. Why are you spending your money on a big tv instead of investing it? That makes no sense! Exactly. That’s how you know my logic is divine.

  • Even this would be considered heresy by the Church. The idea of the Trinity is that all 3 can exist at the same time, but they’re still the same person. Not just masks, but 3 literally different people, but also the same person.

  • Oh my gods. That describes me to a T.

  • I mean, you’re right. We exist in a bubble. The average person is not very tech literate. I would never not E2EE my backups, but the majority of the public don’t care. It matters far more that they can recover their data if they forget their password.

I love hating on big tech, but in this instance, making E2EE the default may make people very angry when they cant just reset their password when they forget it. I’m just happy the option exists where I can toggle it on.

Hopefully one day the public will care enough about security and privacy. And hopefully the public will be using password managers so they never lose their encrypted data. Until that day, encryption kind of has to be opt-in for the general public and available for people who have basic tech skills.

  • Meh. Still not going to die. Death is a bunch of rubbish. I plan to take no part in it.
