  • They are basically more digital data versions of LifeLock. And we all know the legal issues they ran into for disingenuous products/services.

  • 'Anti-American sentiment'...

You stupid fuckers, the bigger problem is the Anti-McDonalds sentiment that's everywhere, because your food is shit, your prices are outrageous, your restaurants are fake and ugly, and you don't give a flying fuck about your customers or your employees!

  • Aww, did Elmo not get the memo about how Tesla are planning to DOGE his sorry ass? Did he only discover it via the media? Now he knows how all those federal employees feel! Not that he's capable of empathy or life lessons.

  • Oh God, please not Newsom! The only thing that two-faced, opportunistic, spineless shit heel deserves is to be tarred and feathered!

  • Ooh, he'd better watch out or he'll be on the receiving end of a luke-warm letter of dissatisfaction from Chuck Schumer.

  • It sounds like they were two different incidents.

  • I second Tinidril's nomination. Go get 'em, buddy!

  • And the illiterate yokels in 12 months time: "Tariff?! That sounds like one of them thar a-rab names!!"

  • That would be hilarious, honestly.

  • "ThEy'Re BoTh ThE sAmE!!1!"

Not this idiotic argument again! The Democrats are definitely flawed as a political party. They have many large blindspots like this one. But they are miles away on a number of key issues from the GOP. And if you don't see that then you are part of the problem that got us into this clusterfuck.

  • I hope this is a billboard on the Canadian side of the border that's pointing towards the US.

  • From the interviews I've been seeing, at least some of them voted against Trump due to concerns about bullshit like this. I expect the majority did vote for him, in which case yes, karma's a bitch. But a) we shouldn't be treating them as a single voting block that all vote the same way, and b) regardless of the schadenfreude we get watching the Trump supporters among them freaking out now, there are grave knock-on effects for consumers looming - including those consumers who didn't vote for Trump.

  • Ah yes, more antivax nonsense. Just what the world needs right now. Especially with the growing measles outbreak due to people not vaccinating their kids.

  • Orange soda is very different from pure orange.

Extra tip: use pulpy pure orange so you get little bits floating around in the brown drink. It adds extra texture. It looks absolutely disgusting, but it tastes great.

  • Half pure orange juice and half cola.

  • And of course it features Margarine Trailer Queen. Whenever there's an insane story it turns out that troll has stumbled out from under her bridge to be the center of attention.

  • Didn't she publication state recently that she was terminally ill as well? Something like liver failure. Maybe she chose to go on her terms in the end.

  • I'm genuinely shocked by this. But only because I didn't think Bessent had the spine or the personality depth to get into a heated argument with anyone. The guy comes across like a timid sloth on Valium, and has all the personality of a wet sock.

  • Some counter points:

    • I'm not seeing a lot of mod abuse here. I'm sure some occurs, but generalizing it to all or most mods is a gross exaggeration. And aside from that, it happens on Reddit too, worse from what I've seen. So it's still not as bad here.
    • Again, I'm not seeing lemmy.world acting like a company (whatever that even means). You know what is a company, and one that sells it's data and flagrantly shits on its users? Yeah, Reddit.
    • Some instances block VPN and Tor? Okay. If you say so. That's not a big concern of mine personally. At least Lenny instances didn't go to war with their users, mods, or API developers.
    • Federation doesn't need to be perfect. It's still better than a closed system in principle, even with its flaws.
    • That's a bold claim about no instances defending their users privacy. Where's the proof? Either way, at least all or most of them don't seem to be aggressively selling their users data to AI company as training material. So they are still better than reddit even if assuming they don't defend user privacy.

Side note: reading the title of this post gave me a headache. But I know sometimes it's easy to over-edit and have text get away from you. Or maybe English isn't your primary language.

  • True. Twitter is ordered of magnitude worse than the other.
