  • You're correct in the general sense. But it's not even 49%. It's basically 2-10% of the American electorate. They flip-flop based on their own myopic, selfish impulses, and whatever bullshit they've been fed by the media.

In 2016 they swung it for Trump because unlike his opponent he's a white guy, they didn't like Clinton, and because Trump's promises of cheaper gas for their big trucks would save them a bit of money each month.

In 2020 they swung for Biden because he's also a white guy, they had discovered Trump just caused chaos without really delivering any personal benefits to them, and Biden looked like the more stable option for their pocket book.

In 2024 they swung for Trump again because unlike his opponent he's a white guy, and they apparently have fucking goldfish memories.

Meanwhile, millions of other people in America and elsewhere in the world are being put through hell to a lesser or greater degree because of these people.

  • In b4 the Trump administration issues a war proclamation on the Washington Bar Association, labels it a terrorist organization, bans it, and sends in the National Guard to destroy its building.

  • Nancy Pelosi, AOC, Mike Pence, and really anyone who they deemed to have offended their god-emperor and who happened to still be in the building.

  • Depends on the payroll company. And it depends on whether they are cloud-based and which region they are hosting in the cloud. And it depends on whether the payroll software offers the feature to disable federal tax deductions from pay checks. And it depends on whether the employer using that software enabled that feature, and if they are willing to face the consequences from a vindictive government.

Edit: basically it's a lot more complicated than just "screw it, we as a state just won't pay our federal taxes!", unfortunately.

  • How does that happen though? It's deducted from paychecks by employers. So unless a large number of employers (especially bigger ones) have the inclination and means to block such deductions on their payroll software, it won't happen. And I don't see a lot of larger companies wanting to jump into a legal violation with the federal government.

    Edit: fixed some typos.

  • To the surprise of zero people who have more than just a handful of brain cells.

The guy is so obviously a malignant, narcissistic, abusive creep. He can put in a good performance sometimes. But there are so many other actors out there who are just as good or better than him. There are no insurmountable reasons why this scumbag should keep getting roles.

  • It started happening a few years ago in my area. Maybe like right before the pandemic?

For a while some of the stations had a hidden option where you could hit one of the unmarked selection buttons and it would at least mute the ads. But starting around the end of last year they took that option away.

The only stations I know of that don't show ads are Costco (and I assume Sam's Club too, but idk). Plus they have slight discounts on gas because they are member only. But my local Costco station is such a headache to get through these days - even at around 9pm after the main store closes - that I not just go to a local Shell or Valero and resentfully try to ignore the fucking ads that always play.

  • Oh TACO Belle? Yeah, she's a prime candidate of cluelessness too. But there are so many trump hires who fit this bill, and only so many characters allowed in a Lemmy comment field.

  • The same administration who...

    • hired a FEMA Director who didn't know the US has as hurricane season
    • hired a Social Security Administration boss who had to Google what social security was after he accepted the job offer
    • hired a completely unqualified Secretary of Education, whose major prior experience was in a wrestling federation
    • hired a drunken talking head from a fake news station to be Secretary of Defense
    • hired a drunken talking head from a fake news station to be the attorney of DC

(...the list goes on and on and on...)

Is making claims about a foreign news organization and what they published on their website... Yeah, I think I'll believe the BBC on this one.

  • Accelerando is such a weird but excellent novel.

  • I hope all those who voted for him and are getting fucked over by this stupidity are satisfied. Enjoy your misery you clowns!

Sucks for everyone else who saw the obvious idiocy though.

  • Surprised nobody here has mentioned Mr Rogers Neighborhood yet.

  • He's going to use his Shai Hulud to selectively breed with the dunes until the spice flows!

  • TIL Ghostery had their own browser.

  • Sell them for pennies to the US military. They can use them as incendiary devices.

  • "I'm gonna J-walk all over the place, and there's nothing you fuckers can do about it! ANARCHY!!"
