  • Would be nice if the Democrat politicians could pull their proverbial fingers out and start soaking up en masse. Seems like right now only a few have really stepped up. This is their chance to redefine themselves to be useful activists.

Failing that, a new and very vocal movement/party to actively oppose the GOP needs to emerge. (Though I am fully aware of how difficult it is for new party's to emerge in the American political system.)

  • Not that I can think of. That's a good point you bring up about the data breaches. They will get your SSN regardless of whether you have a free account or not. But you are a bit more volunteering to data breaches with the account. So if that's a concern you can always freeze/lock your credit without an account. It's just a bit more of a hassle.

    Glad I could help.

  • I don't think a schism would be needed. Many of the current cardinals are ultra-traditional and want to return to more firebrand/traditional policies. And that is because some of the most powerful orders within the church (for example Opus Dei) already align very closely with project 2025 ideologies. They would love to dovetail in with the project 2025 team, expand it into other Western countries, and drag the entire Catholic Church along with them.

  • Innovis is a weird one. It's much less well known to many people than the 'big three'. But regardless, it's used by some pretty big companies, and its origin stems from the likes of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And some of their services/interface are comically outdated, which to me makes it potentially prone to abuse. And that alone warrants giving it some attention.

Your debit score is important because that's what most financial institutions check against when you set up an account with them. They typically don't use credit scores for account eligibility. So debit scores (which are almost exclusively controlled by FIS) can be susceptible to abuse from that angle and in that industry.

ETA: Yes, the response time for the credit bureaus is pretty fast. I recommend setting up a free account with each of Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. They will try to trick you into the paid account during the account creation process, so watch where you click. But their free accounts are decent and get the job done. Plus they make it easier to freeze/unfreeze your credit score than using no account. Innovis' process is easy too, and fairly quick, but it's very old-school.

  • Yes, it objectively is. And so are various other text editor options that are out there.

But just speaking about Notepad++, you can scale it down to a very simple text editor (like Notepad), it you can easily ramp it up to a much more feature rich one. And for me, the ability to have a vertical list of files is a big plus. As is its ability to optionally show line numbers.

  • He probably felt Lemmy was too liberal.

Although as Stephen Colbert pointed out: reality has a liberal bias.

  • Yeah, it's a bit annoying. But I think it's worth it.

For anyone else who is interested, the four credit bureaus in the US are: Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis.

You might also be able to freeze you debit score with FIS.

Edit: For credit scores I might be thinking of locking not freezing as being the free option.

  • Republicans: let DOGE do whatever they want!

DOGE offers severance packages to a bunch of people and then gets the agency they are targeting dragged into expensive legal challenges.

Republicans (looking at the sum of those expenses): look how much these federal agencies have cost us! It's outrageous!

  • Or COBOL, apparently.

Could it be they didn't understand some fundamental information on how COBOL handles default date values? No, it must be the 150 year old vampires exploiting Social Security!

  • She played the role of a neurotic, anxiety-riddled 'hoooor' so well. Clearly she was a very good actress. RIP.

  • He's not going to even understand most of the responses he gets, so this is an exercise in futility. In some cases it would be like having a village idiot judge the Nobel prize candidates.

  • Pretty much. Over the last couple of weeks he's stolen all the money he would have got from the government as part of that contract. So now he wants to bail on the obligation part.

  • Wouldn't surprise me if the person administering the test was also paid under the table by Musk Snr to make sure Elon's result looked better than it actually was.

  • My first car was a Nissan too. It was an unreliable piece of shit. So based on that palpable experience, I'm glad this merger is off.

  • Ahh, so we're into the 'threatening the opposition for contrived threats' stage of the new fascist regime. A little bit earlier than I was expecting. But not a big surprise, considering the state of this speed run to democracy's end.

  • If you have a color printer you could try printing out an image from [this website](https://thispersondoesnotexist.com/( in front of your face and let it take that photo. Might be more hassle than it's worth though.

  • I'm convinced they are doing this in preparation for the negative impacts of climate change (which of course they publicly claim doesn't exist). It's flagrant theft from and disenfranchisement of the working and middle classes. The mega rich are hoarding as much stolen wealth as they can, so they can live in secure ivory towers.

They don't give a shit about anyone else. Including their own descendents when it comes down to it.

  • The fact that the kid next to the aardvark also looks to be filled with regret adds to this.

  • They haven't said yet. But my guesses would be the following reasons:

    • Their app store has never come close to competing with the Google Play Store, and so they probably feel like the extra expense of running it for all Android devices isn't worth it.
    • They want to make it Amazing device exclusive to try to push sales of days devices.
