  • I still stand by what I said and only add an addendum, all companies enshittify themselves eventually or cease to exist before it happens.

In your counterexample, the problem is that the founders eventually die, and then the time comes for that company to be passed down, and then you are just proving my point. Even stores like LTT Store and GamersNexus' will eventually enshittify themselves or cease to exist, because they will eventually have to pass ownership and even their owners will feel some remorse if they vanish it into the void instead of leaving it off for their family to inherit.

If it's a small localized family business, it can exist for longer without compromising itself because it will not receive as much pressure and the services it has to concern itself are much more limited, but otherwise and even then, enshittification is as avoidable as death.

  • The dumbass does not have an original idea or vision in his body. After turning his users into consumer goods, now he's just thinking about reddit r/lounge 2.0 and combining it with reddit awards 2.0 and reddit talk 2.0.

First of all, that only works if moderators get payed or you get some extremely gullible and power hungry ones, which for the first I doubt his money scrounging self could allow and for the second, that's the problem.

It will also open up a whole can of worms that reddit certainly has deserved for some time now, people suing if they are banned from these communities, specially if it was due to personal fickle prerogative of one of the mods. But considering what reddit has gotten away with, this last point is not really that likely.

  • I think we can just assume by now that, if there's any chance there's would be some momentum behind a protest that could be disruptive to our society, the Kremlin troll factories are going to do their best to rile them up. I suspect things like the fascist protests in the UK and the trucker protests throughout Europe to have been heavily promoted by them to try to weaken and sow dissent in our cultures, Kremlin & China have troll factories churning for this sort of thing 24/7. In Spanish speaking social networks, the push to shove propaganda supporting Maduro in Venezuela has been unreal.

  • So ... propaganda? I guess he really wants to push those troll factories to their limit.

  • Kamala-hee, kamala-whoo, kamala-ho, kamala-haha!

(To the tune of Dragostea Din Tei)

Gotta love the positivity Kamala is bringing in, it's hard to remain pessimist.

  • All companies enshittify themselves eventually, and the fact that those that were trying to fight it within the company were still getting shit on from within and from outside the company only hastened its fall by just removing them as a deciding factor through sheer pressure. Google really isn't as dystopian as people put it as - for one, it's too incompetent at starting and sticking to new ventures.

As it continues falling and eventually the traditional competitors overtake it, I think it will become apparent what a truly dystopian megacorporation actually is before Google completely becomes anything remotely close to it - Microsoft would have reached that line if they had successfully been able to sneak in Recall. DuckDuckGo fell when Bing did, smoke and mirrors... Google is pretty bad right now, just not what I would call a dystopic megacorp.

  • Social network and big data, Cambridge Analytica never died, it prospered like a hydra who only got one of its heads cut off. People who only went online to affirm their beliefs are now getting herded into like minded crazies and airheads that serve their purpose as subgroups of artificial movements. And nothing is going to be done about it because astrosurfing is a cornerstone of capitalism, apparently.

  • TL;DR things that rich people do because of the bubble they live in which ends up with repercussions they don't have to take any responsibility on.

  • They don't care about whether it's true or not, they just care about whether it fits a certain stereotype that feels "true" or not. They are not pandering to people trying to be rational who form conclusions based on evidence, they are pandering to a cult that fabricates evidence to reach the conclusions they want to hear.

  • But there is an alternative, search engines that say that are independent but then come crashing down when Bing goes down, which belongs to another convicted yet still existing monopoly.

  • Call me when Biden starts doing something about it, Netanyahu isn't going to stop.

  • Simple, ban the Trump counter protesters from the platform under some fake sweeping guise like "breaking community guidelines".

  • This shit is so absurd. I've had to replace several mouses because of the scroll wheel, until I began opening and saw that it was basically programmed obsolescence that was easy to fix. Logitech has seen how rampant programmed obsolescence is in cheap mouses and is basically taking advantage of it.

  • This has been the GQP party line for quite some time now, make the national debt only matter when they aren't the ruling party. It's their only way to look good, they know Democrats won't hold US citizens hostage so they can stuff bills with whatever they want and still get them passed because Democrats won't let US citizens suffer. Meanwhile all they do is just nuke legislation when they aren't in power because they couldn't care less. They don't appeal to the same voters, just those they can brainwash, and they hedge their bets so those voters matter more.

  • This makes a lot more sense than weird. Old and weird is something one could put on a T-shirt or on a lemmy nbio and enjoy displaying it. It's basically a Weird Al Yankovic T-shirt.

And the meaning of brat really hasn't changed except in some limited social circles, just like the close association between coconuts, monkeys, and primitive tribal connotations. It's as if someone was leading the Democratic marketing campaign by selling it within the bubble but in such a way that it is ultimately ineffective and easily twisted, and it's giving me serious 2016 vibes. I really hope I'm wrong and just out of touch.

  • If you say so. Weird Al Yankovic is a fan favorite of many old people. I can perfectly see people wearing “Old and weird” purposely. There’s no shortage of old people wearing edgy T-shirts, specially in the Trump crowd.

I'm no psychologist, but the irony of praising being called "brat" while touting calling the opposition "weird" makes me feel like I'm back in preschool. These lowered bars, man ... definitely on our way to surpassing Idiocracy.

  • Sorry bud, but weird just isn't an insult. Weird Al Yankovic, for example. In fact, I can perfectly see people wearing "Old and weird" and actually being proud of it. There's no shortage of old people wearing edgy T-shirts, specially in the Trump crowd. But thanks for proving my point, the argument clearly has been dumbed down to the preschool level of just parroting things with minor ineffective alterations in an attempt to mock them.

  • What I'd really like to know is if JD Vance would do something unconstitutional for Trump. If he wouldn't, and that could be the case since the man is just clearly an act, then you know what, he could be the best running mate for Trump because of how much he will eventually undermine him.

But I sort of feel that he will eventually get replaced by someone far, far worse, probably someone like Tucker Carlson. They will also wait to do it closer to the election, and I think it's why they might be projecting so much against Biden changing to Harris, they want to make the possibility impossible to oppose or at least make it so that it attracts controversy so that it is more difficult to make an issue of the many skeletons Tucker Carlson has in his closet. It's clear that Tucker Carlson has been getting pampered for a position of power in the US for quite a while.
