  • I'd guess since the 1st Christians set foot on American soil. I'd guess about 1497 when Cabot went to Main, Columbus didn't land on current US territory but on Cuba and islands in that area.

  • Hetzner has been used for ddos attacks and spam runs, so they're cautious. You pay afterwards, I get the bill the 3rd of the month.

Also, be advised, sending email out is blocked by default and can be unblocked 30d after creating the 1st vps when the 1st invoice is paid. BTW blocking is pretty simply a block on port 25 and 465, so rerouting to anothe rport to a relay works when you need it the 1st 30 days. (for say monitoring)

  • I had a Nokia 8110 and 7110 which had a sliding mechanism to get the mic closer to the mouth (and to look cool), that made (some) sence. Now, I don't see the advantage of a folding phone. Why make a phone shorter while making id thicker? I'm missing the 'small' 4" phones that looked like bricks compared to the old gsm models.

  • The Netgear 324 I have is picky (seems to support only SFP, not SFP+, the 724 was gifted and accepts the 1.25G UTP module. I also have a Cisco 3560 24P with 2 sfp ports. No clue yet if that works correctly and how much power it'll use, but I can test with a short fiber cable I have (when it's not damaged to much) Also, no clue yet how I'd route the fiber trough the house, 4 floors up, 1 across and then 1 down. (about 15-20m) I have cat6 throughout the house, but that's a tad less fragile.

  • I run calibre, it has a server option, which can be queries bij Moon+ reader. (which I use) My setup is internal use only though.

  • Did the same, but in perl and used a small javascript in the resulting page. (Made it ages ago)

  • Play dead. ;)

Ours will just head-bud until you pet them.

  • To be honest, when I see what happens to reddit with the normies left behind, I see the lack of authentication via a big brother company as a pro.

  • Was thinking of going the same route, as my employer threw away a couple of good working 10G optic sfps, but alas, only 1 of my 2 netgear switches supports sfp+ modules. (Couldn't even get a simple 1.25G utp sfp to work in it)

  • Well, technically the America's are 2 continents, each on their own tectonic plate. (Or I remembered that wrong, school was a while ago ;) )

The only people that refer to America as a country live in the USA and couldn't locate it on the map when it was centered on it, even when their life would depend on it. Then again, there are loads of Dutch people that think The Netherlands is Holland (2 of the 12 provinces) or that leaving Amsterdam is traveling to another country.

I get the feeling that Idiocracy turns less into a documentary and more into scifi with a positive view of the future.

  • Then I guess there is only 1 real solution, keep the toilet door shut.

The naughty cat could be treathed on a role of her own, but then it's allowed and a lot less fun. ;)

  • I'm running domoticz on a 3 with an rf-link. Although it just manages some lights, it's usually 99%+ idle.

  • I have a remote for that, kaku remote which sends an off for device one and domoticz turns the lights off for me. When I forget, there is a fixed time in a schedule for off and 2 times for 1, 1 fixed, 1 30m before sun down.

I agree, I find using a web interface/app to cumbersome, the remote is a lot nicer to use. (And I have the original remotes available as well, for when I messed to much with domoticz. ;) )

  • I can relate to this stance. Same here with home automation. I have minor automation which is only accessible from inside my network (and back-uped with the original remotes, so I don't rely on it)

When you can limit it to the home, it could be nice to work with, but I don't trust apple, amazon or google with permanent access to the mic. I heard Siri stating she doesn't understand the question via smart watches while in online meetings or even worse, in areas where phones aren't allowed.

  • I'd say fully functional until it's completely broken. (no deterioration, just quit working all together)

For the rest I think we need to adapt the rest, forget one size fits all, as it usually fits just one. (when really lucky)

  • Ehm? What twitter? Twitter is dead, long live X.

(which I guess will die a horribly slow and quiet death)

  • I don't trust Musk with anything, let alone everything.

As soon as a company offers 'ease of use' for anything, it'll try to get everything it can get their hands on and use it to their own advantage.

  • Play more with her. There are a lot of toys. We have 4 ladies here, all have there own interests, so we have a basket of toys where they can pick what they like. (and it's at the attic, the youngest dog will shred those toys)

One is totally into mice on a fishing rod. We have one at the toilet (no chance to go there with the door closed) and whe fetches the mouse indicating that I need to get the rod and play with her.

With all the toy options they have, including at least 2 scratching posts on the 2 main floors, they leave the toilet paper alone. (but we don't have to leave anything round on the table, as it'll end up on the floor in no-time and when edible, in the dog mere seconds when she's in the room ;) )

  • I store my media, on mirrored disks the ones I scanned myself (to much work, mainly music), series are kept, some mirrored, some not. Movies are kept until I need more space. (I have about 6T mirrored and 8T unmirrored space for all data, including my backups, pictures,...

Anything I can download is pretty expendable, unless I really like it/it took a lot of time to get or find.
