  • I'm a sloppy typer as well, but somehow I notice my mistakes while I make them and correct them on the go.

What doesn't help is that the readout of the keyboard hasn't changed (got faster) since decades, which sometimes hinders me more then my sloppyness.

  • I'm feeling old now... I've been using vi for 35y now and was happy when I got vi.exe on a dos box, as I hated edit. I still don't like 'simple' editors like nano/joe.

I used kill to get out of emacs when trying it agter 7y of vi usage, so I get the need to get mideval on editors users aren't used off. ;)

  • He'll probably be the proof that harsher legislation can backfire. (We can only hope)

  • I still like it, but it's more background music. The programming went from vertical (every day another style the whole day long) to horizontal (every day, same style at the same hours), which is really boring.

  • Ehm, .xxx works fine for them. (And there's more pr0n then male oriented hetro pr0n)

Hmmm, x.xxx as mastodon server just to annoy extwitter.

  • I hate swiping. I'm typing this on my tablet with Hacker's keyboard (the old one, with a full US keyboard) and I miss the nechanical feedback. At least the keys are where they should be, kinda.

To be honest, I type loads behind the PC with a real keyboard (DasKeyboard) and almost never on mobile.

  • In the Netherlands, people get 4 weeks mandatory paid leave (set by law), which is valid until july next year and usually 1 week 'optional' which is valid longer. (when working full time, 40h/week, when working 36 or 38h there will be more days leave) Schools close for 6 weeks during the summer, when it's hottest. (august) Also there is a 3 week period in each region for building companies to be closed. This period falls within the summer holiday of the schools.

Most workers with children (and those working at building companies) take their leave during the summer, when it's usually quiet anyway. Those without the need to go on holiday during those periods, usually stay at work and catch up with the work that was left behind by those that are on holiday. (and enjoy their holiday when it's cheaper, outside the high season)

Employers are required to allow personnel to take at least 3 weeks off, when requested, as personnel tend to get overworked when they can't wind down, which is not beneficial to the company as well costs the country money. (loads) On the other hand, personnel can be forced to take time off when they are overworked and have paid leave left. Mandatory leave usually expires after 18 months with no financial compensation (unless the company didn't allow leave, which is against the rules anyway), optional leave expires after 5 years and gets paid out.

It takes planning, but apart from schools, the building industry and very small businesses, nothing closes. This is well, as nobody would want to be on leave all together, the black saturdays we have are terrible enough as they are. (started as a French phrase for the busiest saturdays on the road due to holiday traffic and spread across Europe)

  • I browse the subscribed feed and then check a few specific communities. After that, I get on with life. (Until next moment I'm bored)

  • Looks like it, I missed the not.

Then I guess covid, the virus, school (hated it there) and that's about it.

  • Your biscuits? Nah, his bisbuits.

  • Dutch summers: Tempratures averaging around 20C, tops at 25C overcast 50% of the days, rain (drizzles).. loved it. Better then average around 30C, tops at 40C+, no rain for months and clear skies all around.

Duckhunt: Unplayable on non-CRT. Gave the Nintendo with th gun and game to a friend which bought my last CRT.

Corona: Not the pandamenic, but everything else, the quiet, not being allowed to go to the office,... finally quiet and peace, no enforced social non-sense that all extroverts can't live without. (The beer as well, miss it)

  • I still have them, and a player (Nakamishi 700 ZXL), and a Revox B77 with reels. I don't have functioning 8-tracks anymore. I have the tapes and equipment, but the tapes all broke. I need to find way to fix them (restore the loop).

There's to much music lost just because the medium isn't available anymore and it wasn't economicaly viable to transfer it to a newer medium. So many records that didn't get transferred to CD.

  • Great, reading this while listening to the radio, huge stereo wall, Onkio tuner, FM antenna in the attic, coax cable trough the house,... I have a constant quality and yes, internet radio is a tad better, but the biggest issue there is the delay. When you have radio in multiple rooms, the different delays are a use sourec of irritation. Also my wife finds the sount to harsh witn sattelite radio or DAB.

As long as FM is available, I'll use it for radio. When it's end of the road for FM, I'll switch to my own collection. (And in the car, no alternative to FM, CD of cassette)

  • If not then maybe it's time for a new hobby... It's my mobile client of choice at the moment.

  • That's the method I use now, works nicely.

  • I'm glad I put my overdraft in a loan, else it would be disastrous.

On the regular account it would help a tad, on savings a tad more. Big difference, nop. (But we could finally buy the oled TV and keep some for emergencies)

  • There isn’t some Linux Hell we’ll end up in if we don’t convert before we all die.

    There is, MS Windows. ;)

Just kidding. For most, it's just fine to use closed source products, however, the most/earliest adopters of the fediverse are open source adepts. Accept their weirdness that brings you the free environment (ok, based on donations, but nothing is forced upon you). They put their spare time into the development and maintenance of the environment. They give free tips, either try it out or ignore them.

  • Most open source adepts are practical, but most would prefer a tad of less perfect of free open source then perfect closed source.

For me, the main computer needs to be stable, the rest is for messing about with. I'm glad I found open source solutions for most issues. (apart from breaking open Android devices)
