  • Well agreed that they should ban all cigarettes. in the end this is a half arsed solution that they came up with to "help" minorities.

But to be honest, I've seen too many people die to tobacco. I don't care if the proposal is racist or not. Anything that can merely annoy a smoker's smoking habits for me is a step in the right direction.

That's the tiny hill I'm willing to die on.

  • Yes it is in the case of tobacco usage.

imagine a situation women drank more alcohol than men and then the government banned alcohol for everyone. So you would consider this bad because it's immoral to impose any kind of ban on women?

So what then? Ban it for the rich, the middle class and white people and let the people at risk smoke themselves to death ?

Where are your morals in this ? Put down your ideologies for one second and be pragmatic.

  • what a wanker take on it, cigarettes should be banned period, they do nothing good for anyoneand are an absolute blight for public health. Any step in making cigarettes worse for accessibility, as marginal as it is, is a step in the right the right direction. People who smoked in France had the same take when they upped the cigarette prices "ooooh it won't stop the poor people smoking blah blah" "they're just doing it for the money they don't care about poor people it will just hurt the common man more". Welll cookie it turns out that 10€ has forced a lot of people to stop and greatly reduced young people who start smoking in the first place. Granted now people have shifted to vaping but compared to cigarettes they're heaven. You can't even compare vaping to smoking.

  • I prefer using telegram but in terms of privacy? Signal no discussions.

  • If I'm gonna focus on the headphone jack then I could simply say that it's already a cheap and reliable part that provides better quality sound that Bluetooth most of the time. Wired headphones are also way cheaper to buy and in my experience easier to fix. the Bluetooth earphones when their battery starts dying down or gets damaged will be thrown away and create more waste.

Wether this company IMHO is greenwashing OR the competition on the mobile segment is just too great and I want to believe the latter.

I think that the phone is also way too expensive, yes the phone is repairable but the components are still quite expensive to replace (although very easy to do so).

Fairphone has made too many faux pas with this one.

As for my phone, I am not a reference in that matter I upgraded to a zenfone 10 that I intend to keep for 4 years (until no more security updates). the phone cannot get it's bootloader unlocked but I'm not going to dive into that at this point. A small phone with a decent headphone jack with latest specs and big amount of storage.

I am in Asia and I had a degoogled phone but it's extremely hard and inconvenient most of the time (even with microg). so anyway just to say I won't be tinkering with the phone just using open source apps as much as possible.

  • I might get flack for this but I despise them for their greenwashing. removing the headphone jack to sell their own Bluetooth headphones was mmmmmmh move at best.

  • I mean this buisness model is a dream for introverts

  • Uttar pradesh and lemmygrad have one thing in common. How easy it is to recognize them reliably.

  • You're also missing the point. Google gives firefox around 85% of it's revenue. We are really fighting an uphill battle against against corporations that have even bribed our allies. I don't want to argue because at this point it's pointless I don't want to be pitted against people who support FOSS because that's what I want to use and that's what I use most of time. But when it comes to browsers we have lost that battle.

Unless we find 800 million dollars in donations, Mozilla is just the pet dog of google at this point.

  • I totally understand you that's the reason I was using Firefox also. but after discovering that their main revenue is from Google and that firefox is basically kept alive BY Google just so they can say that it looks like their supporting different browsers is a big no. Performance and display problems on my phone were really annoying (I was using Mull on my phone and firefox on desktop).

  • It would be foolish to think that a company that goes far out of it's way to make walled gardens would open up it's charging port to an industry standard making it easier to use charging cables from other phones. They kept the thunderbolt as long as possible until the EU told them to quit the crap.

  • I mean boost looks good but in what ways is it better than let's say connect for lemmy for example. what the first thing that comes to your mind?

I've tried Boost quickly and ads aside I haven't noticed anything than is inherently superior to connect which is what I'm using right now.

  • The pricing is way more reasonable than sync. I'm still sticking with connect but at least this dev is not asking for much.

  • that's really good news even though I don't use firefox anymore (sorry vivaldi user) I'm glad firefox is actually improving.

  • Let them. They're killing their votes base anyway. for all the others get your booster shots, wear masks as much as possible in public.
