  • I meeaannn… of course the US has an imperial bone to pick with the other imperial nations. So the same attitude and conditioning to “other” the competing nations applies equally to Russia and china. So I think I have to disagree on your point that there is inherent racism in the china conditioning. Does racism get borne out of the antagonistic relationship? Of course. But everything said about china is said equally (at least in spirit) about Russia.

And you’re absolutely right, there is no benevolent state. A state’s first and only goal is to sustain itself and secondly to increase is standing. And I’m def with you that we need to not let borders come between the global working class.

My whole point is there is a tendency on the more communist-leaning left to reverse the conditioning by just swinging all the way to the other side. “The US is bad, china/Russia is better.” They’re both equally imperialist, they’re both equally exploitative, and they’re both equally heinous. It’s absolutely a mistake “western” leftists make to embrace the other superpowers in an attempt to denigrate their own. It’s necessary to remove that lens when we discuss these kinds of issues to see the entire picture, because swinging to the other superpower nations and embracing them as better is such a limiting (and incorrect) way to think about it. It’s a simplified first step in realizing your home nation is wrong. Going against them for being wrong should not mean embracing their equally wrong counterparts.

  • I LOVE cyberpunk. I just finished my [actual number of times I’ve played redacted] play through and I’m stopping myself from starting another. I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s just exactly up my alley. The choices they have you make, they styles of play it let’s you choose, it’s just preem-tier gaming for me. The DLC adds such a massive cherry on top, because it’s so goddamn good it rivals the best the game has to offer.

Enjoy, because it’s so fuckin fun.

  • Think the “right to repair” conversation. When you buy something, their argument is you don’t own it. You can’t alter it, you can’t do with it what you want for your own use. It’s theirs and you’re only allowed to look at it in its current form. If it’s broken? It’s your problem. If you fix it, we’re gonna make it your problem. That kinda thing.

  • I wasn’t making a 1:1 comparison. I was saying that “but look how many people have been lifted out of poverty!” argument is a capitalist argument, because it completely ignores the reality of the situation. Have people been lifted out of poverty by outsourcing? Of course. But that doesn’t negate the core problem.

As the other person mentioned, outsourcing manufacturing TO china is largely responsible for the manufacturing boon there. And then rich Chinese capitalists (though they use the cover of not being called capitalists) became rich middlemen between “western” businesses and the cheap Chinese labor. So outsourcing has absolutely contributed to it. You and the American capitalists are looking at the same thing, one is crediting American executive innovation, the other is crediting the CCP.

  • Capitalists use the same exact argument for why outsourcing labor to the poorest countries is actually a good thing. For real, I’ve argued so many right wingers saying “searching for the cheapest labor actually helps the worlds economy because you’re lifting those poor people of _____ out of poverty! It doesn’t matter that it’s only pennies/day, because to them, that’s a lot of money!”

    Pretty goddamn gross behavior.

  • There was a story that came out recently about those triangle/metallic-type tea bags are releasing tons of microplastics into your tea when the water is hot. So not exactly the ones in the photo because they’re paper, but still. Topical joke

  • “Could be.”

Jeez, I hope they make a determination soon! Because, like, it would be kinda nice if they would do something about it. Kick out the only two countries denying the fuckin genocide, pass resolutions, send peacekeepers, shout the goddamn genocide from the rooftops. And then the ICC could send people to arrest the perpetrators AND the enablers, shut down the fuckin war profiteers selling the weapons, nationalize their fuckin businesses, send these fucking monsters to The Hague and then the fuckin graveyard.

  • I’m willing to bet this is Amazon. Because I work in production and last May I was hired to light something that turned out to be their June commercial—which is the kind of shit I try to avoid when I can. It felt…gross as fuck. So exploitative and we could all hear the LGBTQ creators they hired lamenting how shitty it felt between takes.
