  • Bragging that you keep a version of the app around that allows you to fly your drone in areas that puts other people's lives in danger is not the gotcha moment you think it is.

  • Shareholders probably weren't happy that Apple is taking a cautious, more modest approach to AI and instead wants them to dump quadrillions into it instead like every other tech company.

Sarcastic hyperbole aside, I'm interested what this iPhone SE refresh looks like.

  • Finally, something to listen to while I huff the fumes.

  • Apple really needs to step up with bugfixes for iOS and MacOS instead of pushing rushed yearly upgrades.

  • Where did I say I was rolling over and giving up? I just said I have no attachment to my country and that it can go fuck itself.

I vote. I write to my MPs and MLAs. I support local businesses. I use alternative transportation when possible. I help educate my family and friends and what options they can take.

Could I be doing more? Absolutely. But being unhappy with the status quo doesn't mean I'm not doing anything. Don't put words in my mouth.

  • I've never been one for feeling pride in my country, but the fact we're all being bled dry by inflated costs of living and greedy, government-sanctioned monopolies isn't helping these statistics. So, yeah, fuck this shit hole of a country.

  • No thanks; I'm good. Still feeling the sting over buying my 4080 Super last spring. Also it's doing me just fine for my work and for games.

  • I visit some fast food chains but I avoid Burger King at all costs. Some of the worst burgers I have ever seen and eaten in my entire life have come from that dump.

Prices are getting out of hand, though. Fast Food is quickly reaching price parity with actual quality restaurants which is insane.

  • I've voted "No" to that on a few "Great on Deck" games before. Valve is way too lenient on what they consider "great" on the Deck.

  • I prefer to live special moments with my own eyes instead of staring at a phone screen the entire time.

  • At first they were really cool and seemingly had unlimited potential with a wild and unknown future as numerous brands competed intensely with their own take on the formula.

These days, they are ultra expensive glass rectangles that exist to serve you endless ads and harvest every piece of info about every facet of your life. You also have to pay enormous subscription fees to get half the functionality they used to have. I just got an iPhone on a deep discount from my carrier and I stopped giving a shit about phone tech. Processor speed, camera specs, "AI", whatever. It's all trash to me now and the technology doesn't excite me in the slightest. Carriers and manufacturers have choked all the life and enjoyment out of smart phones.

  • And this is why any attempt to "fight" affordability that doesn't include plans to kneecap corporations is effectively useless and a waste of time.

  • I don't tip. Unless it's a bit of cash to my Uber or cab driver for helping with luggage or something. Other than that, nope. It's not my responsibility to pay your employees - and that's assuming they even get the tip money which so often they don't.

  • We are going to be seeing so many of these investor-backed, AI-focused, trend-chasing startups dropping like flies in the next few years as the interest (and VC money) dries up. The landfills of the world are going to fill with even more disposable trash as so many cloud-dependant gadgets go offline.

  • A few thoughts as a 3D modeller that has done hired work based off provided AI concepts:

    • The usability of those assets will depend on the kind of game you are making. Are they 2D? 3D? Sprites? etc AI can generate 2D pictures but cannot generate 3D models that are useful in a proper production workflow/pipeline. Every generated 3D model I've seen is a dogshit mess.
    • Will you be the only one working with these assets? Sending untouched AI content off to another artist in the pipeline can cause extreme headaches depending on what it is.
    • Things generated with AI have a very inconsistent artistic style. This is fine for rapid prototyping and quick concepts but awful for finished products.
    • AI content is extremely difficult to edit and work with and may not even be editable at all.
    • Legality varies by location, region, and storefront.
    • Your customers will notice and you and your product will be ridiculed for using AI, especially if you use a lot of it.

Lastly, and this is going to get a bit spicy: If you care about the work you do and take even a tiny amount of pride in your work then please, for the love of the Gods, use assets made by real people. If you do not have the skills or equipment to make them yourself then there are plenty out there that are cheap, reasonably priced, or even free and royalty-free. Using AI content in a public release just screams "I am cheap and couldn't be bothered to hire actual talent." and indicates that you do not care about your work.

  • Considering the amount of gambling, exploitative practices, dark patterns, etc that exists in modern live-service games - saying that comes across as rather disingenuous.

It is good to hear this particular live-service game is bucking some of the recent trends, but I think it is safe to say these types of games, in general, have done damage to the industry and the wallets and minds of players. Enjoy yourselves, but be cautious and don't let your guard down because these companies will screw you if they think they can. We have seen it so many times.

  • I always get a good laugh when I see a giant "PROUDLY MADE IN USA" sticker that has a big US flag.

and it's on a plastic tub. Or a bucket. I think the plastic brush I use to clean my cast-iron pan is from the US, but again it's just a lump of plastic.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the most common USA-produced good I interact with is oil.
