  • They were saying they understood and agreed with the tenets of "defund the police" but thought that phrase was terrible marketing. It's an easy target for the opposition to sway anyone in the middle, because it sounds like getting rid of police entirely.

  • The awfulness of the story aside, I do want to put a small bit of appreciation toward ABC News for not dropping some bullshit like "17-year-old man dead following an officer-involved shooting during a welfare check." The voice is passive still, but at least it cuts to the point, that the kid was killed by a police officer.

My only notes are that it should say "Officer shot and killed 17-year-old while conducting a welfare check." As it is, it's like it's saying the kid was shot and killed, and it just so happened to be by an officer.

  • You are conflating two very different things. About half of the gay men I've known were fairly or very masculine, they just were attracted to men. And I've known plenty of straight guys that ranged from feminine to downright flamboyant. The way you tell if someone likes men or not is either if they tell you or flirt with you, and if they're a man, then they are gay (or bi or whatever non-strictly-straight flavor).

Incidentally, most of the (non-trans) men I've known that were feminine or flamboyant were artists of some flavor, which tend to be a group with less inhibitions, so I would guess there are plenty of non-artist men that would show more femininity if they felt more comfortable with doing so.

  • Seriously, everything up to the introduction of Alfheim was fantastic, to me.

Then they just kind of... went a different direction with it. I even liked the romance story arc until they turned her into a fuckin Damsel In Distress.

  • Wait, is the two-day shipping taking forever happening for everyone? I thought it was just because I moved to Alaska. It takes 2-4 weeks (and doesn't show up about 10-20% of the time) for anything, but Walmart and Target stuff gets here in less than a week.

  • Okay, I need to say it: having an ad for your own programming is still an ad.

Paramount. I'm looking at you, Paramount. I don't want to watch your shitty movie/TV show/whatever about the shitty mom from the His Dark Materials series losing another kid. Stop playing the same goddamn ad for it before every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Especially since you feel the need to double whatever goddamn volume I have set in the opening to the ad. I pay for the subscription, I already bought your product. Fuck off with your shitty ad.

I mean, others do it too and it pisses me off, but I'm on Season 2 of TNG and I may just have to get it some other way and canceling Paramount because that ad has started really getting to me.

  • "Charged with a hate crime for what?"

"For saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas! Starbucks changed to just a red cup so that's a hate crime too! Schools are trying to stop coaches from making kids on their teams pray! And trans people exist! Hate crimes!!"

  • Within 30 days of the judge's written judgment, Trump has to turn over either cash or a bond.

This always, always begs the question: "or what?" Over and over we hear of what courts decide people "must" do, but when they are rich and/or powerful or honestly just stubborn enough, it doesn't seem to have any teeth.

And I get it, there are a lot of things they can do, but they always seem to scared or complacent to do any of them. It's getting real old reading about what Trump or Alex Jones or whoever "must" do without seeing them actually suffer consequences for not doing it.

  • I find it beyond ridiculous that they are allowed to wear their police officer uniform while working private security. You should not be able to pay for police officer muscle. That uniform, and the authority that goes with it, is in service to the taxpaying public.

  • I think the border is in crisis. Our shitty policies make it incredibly and unnecessarily difficult for people to enter the country seeking asylum or a legal means of getting citizenship. I would say the camps of people stuck on the other side of the border, prey to criminals who would rape, steal, and murder (not to mention the asylum-seekers vulnerable to those they are seeking asylum from) are the biggest part of that crisis.

So I'm not sure if I'd be considered part of that 75%, because my solution is to make the system more efficient in letting people in and started with paths to citizenship. Then there wouldn't be masses of people at the border.

  • I'm having trouble understanding what you mean by this, but to be clear, somebody putting the things you mentioned in their profiles would make them seem rude or generally unappealing. I think that is precisely what the OP was trying to avoid.
