  • Most people who aren't right-wing nut jobs know how to admit when they're wrong about something and how to be happy for something that actually is a positive for the majority of people who aren't already rich, regardless of how that result was achieved.

Tariffs are normal, they encourage a strong local economy that doesn't get screwed over by a dominant economy that decides to use the trade relationship against the local economy, but they haven't been "aggressive" since the last time they were used as an act of war and ended up causing a depression.

  • I hope it's not a thing, that's nasty. If you believe going barefoot is detoxifying I can kinda understand, like you do you, but on city streets? 🤢

Even if that's how detoxifying actually worked, you'd still be doing the opposite on a sidewalk.

  • I put lentils in my vegetarian chili. Do chilli however you like - I prefer a bean blend over straight kidney beans- and just boil a pot of lentils and use them in place of the ground beef if your doing a quick chili. I would think you wouldn't want them pre cooked if you're doing a slow cook chili.

  • In Canada we are dealing with a housing crisis, a healthcare crisis, and a climate crisis (we still have wildfires burning in January) on top of alt-righters trying to reverse all progress that we've made.

So very similar to America- not quite as dramatic. Though Albertabama has been quiet for a while so I expect the Premier to do something stupid soon.

  • Calling it toxic masculinity isn't victim blaming. Men are victims to toxic masculinity every day and it isn't because they have a "toxic personality", it's because the "masculine" image and roles in society they are expected to uphold are toxic.

The opinions of "neo feminists" are not what is typically held true either. Very few people think that way.

  • I don't mean to put myself in the place of anything - I just meant that the better course of action is to find improvement rather than fault. It's a situation where being able to put the blame on something does nothing to improve the situation. We're lonely because there are too many people is all.

There's a lot of people at fault for things in my life and if I worried about blaming them, I wouldn't have had the time to get educated and grow as a human so that I could move past the things they are at fault, I was just trying to broaden that idea into something more general.

  • I am sorry you had to experience that, but it is very insightful and aware to know that your trauma would affect the perception. Most would gloss over that.

Not saying this about you specifically ( I don't know if you have things about you that you don't like), but people who have things they don't like about themselves also have a tendency to see criticism and insults about that particular thing where there are none. Like I used to be really over weight, so anytime anyone made jokes about something being large or about pigs or cows, I would internalize that and assume it was about my fatness because I hated that about myself.

Fellow Extreme Weather Lemmings, what are your Buy it for Life winter boot suggestions?

Should I have separate Lemmy and Mastodon accounts?
