  • Living the dream

  • Yeah, if VLC can't do it, I'd bet my money nothing can

  • I'm not a Linux fan boy by any means, but you've at least got to give it a fair deal...

Saying Linux sucks because of Google's Android is the equivalent of saying you hate all vegetables because Brussel Sprouts suck.

  • I think that's a per installation thing, cause mine has always had issues with sleep mode - ironically no problem with hibernation though haha

  • Pointing out that you find it easy because you do it for a living isn't a very good counter to their point - most people do other things besides Linux for a living

  • It's worm morse code, "my parents aren't home today"

  • Exactly, exactly - though I wouldn't judge people taking non-food items like soap, detergent, and other basic hygene products either. They're low cost goods most people need but might not be able to afford.

  • The problem is the stereotype of people who say “It’s what my character would have done.” are just using that as an excuse to dodge blame for having their overly edgy character perform questionable acts such as murderhoboing that ruin the fun for everybody else.

Having said that, understanding what your character would actually do in a given situation based on their current knowledge, background, etc. can make for really good RP situations, but must be done in good faith (unlike above)

  • My DM used to warn their players that if they acted like Murderhobos or were an accomplice to one, they would get treated like Murderhobos...

It also incentivised the party to keep their muderhobos in check, by force if necessary

  • I'm certainly not a snitch, but my respect only goes towards people who are stealing what they need rather than what they want - the former is surviving the struggle, the other is kleptomania

  • My old DM's favourite was the good old "you sure about that?"
Now and again they'd ask it as a bluff, so you never knew for sure if they were serious or not

  • The rest of the world got the right version of the man’s work

Which is (or at least should be) "Aluminium" because that's the internationally agreed IUPAC spelling.

We gave up the cooler spelling of Sulfur to be consistent with IUPAC - if we can do that, then surely giving up on "-num" should be a cakewalk.

  • Sucks doesn't it -- I too used to think that the Boomers would at some point exit stage left and let newer generations take over, but not only have they continued to hold onto power well into their 60s/70s, they've also done everything they can to consolidate their own power and riches, while knocking the ladder out from under the later generations.

My only advice is to take a break for the news and focus on yourself, maybe find a de-stressing hobby like drawing or sewing. Aside from that, I just wish you best of luck.

  • It's a shame to see him go, as his weekly uploads were always interesting things to look at, and have inspired some parts of my bucket list...

Having said that, after 10 years of weekly uploads (about 520 videos) without missing a single one (excluding guest videos), he absolutely deserves a hiatus from this series.

If his passions lie in his other works (ala Technical Difficulties), I say let him pursue those - I'd much rather see Tom work on other content than have him burn out and dissappear from the internet entirely, he's too good for that.

Plus, who knows, maybe he'll come back to do one-off specials or start it up again with less frequent uploads - but either way, that's for Tom to decide, not us.

  • Was going to say the same - I distinctly remember him making a direct announcement back around June-July about him going on hiatus, and a fair few subsequent mentions throughout the last 6 months of videos, so it's hardly fair to Tom to say it came completely out of nowhere

  • I've not used Google Books since my student days, I'd honestly forgotten it was a thing haha

  • I don't think that's what they're saying, I think they're pointing out that Trump says so much and has so much said about him that what he actually does ends up getting swept under all the other news.

Sure those in the know can keep track but the average person is just seeing the headlines as they come - and this article is part of the very same problem that it is pointing out
