Do you know what a "whataboutism" actually is? This is simply called refuting your point.
You made a generalisation that breaking the law makes you a bad person.
You used that to justify calling Snowden a bad person because he broke the law in revealing government malfeasance.
The person you're responding to you gave you an example of someone who also broke the law, but nobody would consider a bad person, being MLK.
They're arguing that the generalisation you're hanging on to accuse Snowden of being a bad person isn't valid, and I for one agree with them.
Snowden risked his life and liberty to reveal the NSA's warrantless mass surveillance program. It is true that he betrayed the government, that's why they want his head on a plate, but he didn't betray the country. He saw tyranny and he spoke out against it.
If you want a more realistic, closer to home scenario. Imagine you had a friend who was cheating on their partner. If you told that partner about them cheating, you absolutely would've betrayed your friend and they would hate you, but very few people would call that wrong to do. If that friend then started threatening violence on you, there's a chance that you'd have to move home, but that still doesn't make what you did wrong though.
If they're lying, and you can prove it, you prosecute them for perjury...
But if you suspect they've got important info, them perjurying them would be a waste. It would be more beneficial to let a witness know that you know they're lying before you prosecute. Give them a chance to straighten out their story, potentially giving you a much larger win than if you'd simply removed them as a witness via perjury. That's exactly what they've done here
There are times where it is beneficial to let a witness know that you know they're lying, giving them a chance to flip before you fry them, as the info they're holding onto may very well be worth more than eliminating them as a witness entirely via perjury.
The fact that Pence can turn around and start sucking off of Trump again, even after Trump literally tried to have him lynched for doing his job, shows how spineless the Republicans really are

Nodus Tollens is such a specific idea, yet I'd bet there's almost nobody on this planet who hasn't that sombre "what the fuck am I even doing with my life" moment at some point
If "Vote for Educated Leaders" is truly a controversial statement, then we're all fucked.
Your leaders absolutely should be educated, not even necessarily in politics, but Bob next door who's only got two neurons in his head fighting for third place shouldn't be leading any country
It is valuable, but at the moment it's like we've got a hole in our boat and we're just throwing the water back out with a bucket. Essentially useless in the long-term without plugging up the hole!
