  • Lets break the near monopoly they have and give what google wants the finger.

    https://duckduckgo.com/windows

You know how nearly every browser is now based on chromium? And firefox when its not chromium, and even forefox adopted the extension limitations of chrome? Well I hear Duckduckgo's new browser something new finally instead of based off an existing browser.

It doesn't have extensions yet but those are coming and adblock is baked in.

Ed: my 1st downvotes of my time on the fediverse. <3 you to folks.

  • We've so much plastic waste that its now our most signifigant marker in the fossil record to say "humans lived here".

  • Anything good for is but not thier bottom line: OH HEAVENS NO, THE EXPENSE!

Anything they can profit from: this is essential.

  • Same is actually true for most fossil fuel production now - only has profits because of subsidizing.

The folks profiting spend part of that profit to pay for politicians to continue the cycle.

  • Pretty much exact argument much of the south made about ending slavery before the american civil war happened..

  • Not a bug exactly - they didn't think it through. To see what I was talking about you'd need a very very old version. Like way back when it was new. It seemed the that it was the developers that didn't know what a global hook was. They were just very obnoxious about it before finally seeing reason and correcting the behaviour. At the time, it woild fire for -every- global hook. To my knowledge you can mo longer reproduce this, but the reaction they had to someone trying to suggest this wasn't right was enough for me to never go near anything under thier brand ever again.

  • The issue and why it wss stupid wasn't that it was a hook, its that it was attributing it to any app you opened when by definition a global hook is GLOBAL - you do users no gppd by scarinh them into thinking every global hool is malware frpm whatever random thing they ran. Those alert even would trigger on windows notepad. There is no reasom amy comnination of iser options should do this.

That was piss poor design and they evenyually walked it ba k after months of defending it by implying users amd security researchers were stupid on their forum, simce deleted. Its not in the wayback machine or I'd show you. Thier "fans" dogpiled on the topic after thier staff replied condesdingly.

  • It also had options (framed as "levels" of ptotection) that would make more of those pop up prompts at completely nonsensical times about nonsense things - like declareing whatever you just tried to run was using a global hook. I had virtualdub up and opened windows notepad and it tried to tell me that virtualdub was using a global hook as if virtualdub was a threat.

In all my years in IT thats still im the top 10 dumbest things I've seen in software even all these years later.

  • At least there is still no such animal as a giraffe. /s

  • It would help if people would stop being aholes and turning terms into offensive ones by intentionally using them insult. "autism" is being used online sometimes in place of "retard" now as an insult. Won't be long before those of us on the spectrum need a new term because of these clowns.

Every insult word to call someone stupid was once a clinical term (including stupid). I am not kidding look it up that's quite a long history of doing this, people suck.

  • Git itself.

Which allowed this monstosity I contributed heavily to, to leave a hellscape of svn patches: https://github.com/LandSandBoat/server

So git earns the "favorite" designation hands down.

  • Well for starters alternatives to github would need to stop shitting the bed. I and my team left for gitlab at one point, then gitlab had that whole fiasco where they violated everyones rights and litteraly broke the law while their ideot cfo mouthed off in public posts at the company devs who questioned the move. Then after that they tried to remove "inactive" projects till a whistleblower leaked it and that blew up in their face.

Bitbucket ignored major issues with its platform for more tha 6 years including the most popularly demanded feature basic fucking search functionality.

The list goes on and we tried many things before being basically forced to ho back to github. But right now unless you can self host githubs the best of what's available. If you self host I recommend gitea or gogs over shitlab who has proven they can't be trusted.

  • Yup. And it wasn't money they would have gotten anyway so big N gets mad about nothing.

  • Doesn't lose them money, the used game woudn't make them anyway which is whu they lobbied to try and make reselling used games require a royalty or be illegal for years before everything became digital.

As for emulation they lie and call emulation itself illegal (the copies may be but emulation itself is not) because then they can't pull a disney and "vault" old games on their digital storefronts and make you buy it again when they decide to just up shut down the previous server when they launch the next console.

They don't want us to own the things we pay for. They want us to rent them while not realizing it.

  • Yup. And seconded.

  • All systems fall to corruption. All. I believe an A or B choice is cheating humanity out of new solutions.
