  • If OP is getting unlucky enough to, idk, encounter a solid stream of sexist memes in their feed or something, "revealing" gender is kind of irrelevant to the level of uncomfy they might feel.

  • Yeah I'm not sure what they mean either, and I chat to other women on here every day. Not to say they've not had a bad experience obviously but it seems far from universal.

OP if someone is being a sexist creep, smash that report button!

Can't say I've noticed anything different to most places, other than right back at the start when I called a few people out for assuming everyone was a guy it actually got upvoted, which was nice 😄

  • For future reference if you tag the Lemmy community in a reply instead of the top-level toot it won't do this 😄

  • I heard people talking about it but never been motivated to give it a look. Maybe now's the time :)

  • Someone gifted me Stellaris a couple of years back and honestly, I've played it off an on but always seem to bounce off it despite usually loving 4X games.

I'm not sure Star Trek branding is going to be enough to pull me in if the core gameplay is as slow as Stellaris, but I guess it's all going to come down to price. If anyone needs me in the meantime I'll be starting a new Stellaris campaign and trying to be more enthusiastic about it this time round!

  • It's perfectly possible to be a fan of a genre, but not of a particular film in that genre. Stop trying to make it weird.

  • Definitely recommend subscribing to stuff you're more interested in and browsing that way. All is always going to be a bit lowest common denominator, same as on every similar site.

  • There are some surprisingly active craft communities here that are by definition pretty wholesome, but I guess probably not that interesting if you're not into the specific hobbies themselves. ymmv. You can find a sticky thread with a ton of them listed here https://lemmy.world/post/1715954

  • If you're on the web UI, this is the crosspost icon

you'll find it just below your post title and username etc. All you need to do is select the community you want to cross-post to. You can optionally also add extra text, and tailor the title to make it more relevant.

If you're on an alternative UI and don't have this feature, well I think that's probably why we get so many duplicate posts so it may be worth raising with the developer(s) of your app.

  • I for one am planning to singlehandedly post so much Eurovision crap here next season. If the action on Mastodon this year was anything to go by, we'll be fine!

  • Nah I'm with you, just made a similar comment! It did have its moments but I expected the songs to be stronger for sure.

  • Ok I love musicals so was definitely looking forward to this one. Did anyone else find it a little disappointing?

There was a bit too much moping and not enough joy, for me. That's what makes a good musical episode so great, they can progress the plot while giving us an over-the-top fun time. But instead we had everyone singing a sad song and then one or two upbeat numbers, none of which were particularly catchy or entertaining. Like, if you've seen it even just once or twice years ago like I have you can probably remember some of the songs from the OG Buffy episode, but we watched this last night and by the end I genuinely couldn't even remember the supposed grand finale song.

Boy band Klingons made the wait worth it, but I spent most of this episode spaced out a bit and just half-listening rather than watching which is the first episode I can say that about.

Shoutout to whoever decided to redo the theme music though, that was inspired.

Also the talk about bunnies has to be a reference to Buffy, right?

  • It does feel very quick, given how long they spent teasing the two of them together. This was one of my problems with s1 as well, starting off character arcs and then wrapping them up way too soon (M'Benga's daughter, for example).

  • I think some of the mobile apps do actually have this feature. But also it's an account setting in lemmy core, look for "show read posts" in your settings.

  • That's true, I choose to believe that nagging gamedev newbies to use version control and posting photos of random yarn tangles is officially a public service. Thank you for the new perspective 🫡

  • I'm procrastinating, so let's do some maths.

Over the 4 accounts I've had in my time here (Beehaw > lemm.ee, this one on .world + a backup mod account on Blahaj) my totals are:

    • 77 posts
    • 2165 comments (roughly)

Original cake day was June 4th, so I make that 60 days.

Thus averaging 1.28 posts and 36 comments per day. Jesus. I regret working that out.

  • I see we're all shilling the communities we mod, which makes sense if you think about it. So in that vein:

For more gamedev-related communities we've got a sticky post here, and for more crafting communities of all shapes and sizes there's one here!

Apart from those I've been hanging around in !ukcasual@lemmy.world since both my and its very first day here on Lemmy. Like the name suggests, basically just casual UK chatter without the scourge of politics. Lots of moaning about the weather.

!discworld@lemmy.ml could do with more Pratchett fans finding it, it's been pretty dead for the last month (not entirely surprising though as the subreddit wasn't huge either).

And another shoutout to !anarchychess@sopuli.xyz because LOL.

  • I am definitely bumping that stat up singlehandedly by an unhealthy amount.
