  • because this is per kilogram, not per serving. you don't eat a kilogram of chocolate in a day

  • People on lemmy will really be like 'you believe in individual action? that pales in effectiveness to my strategy, firebombing an oil rig' and then not firebomb an oil rig.

  • coffee and chocolate can also be had fairtrade, which helps ease the conscience

pro tip: lidl (in sweden at least) sells remarkably cheap fairtrade chocolate

  • there are remarkably acceptable vegan cheeses these days, i've tried one from i think it was Valio or Oddlygood (which might be the same fucking company anyways iirc) and it's just slightly weird starchy cheese that melts in a strange way.

  • to some degree maybe, but even a doubling for most of these things still puts them way way way below the emissions of beef.

but things like beans are trivial to grow on a small local scale, if you can get your food from local farmers that aren't using 500 tractors and tons of artificial fertilizer then it's hard to even theoretically do better.

  • literally the only (pure) meat i feel comfortable buying anymore is ground pork, even chicken is hilariously expensive at this point..

  • i've never understood the obsession with beef, sure it tastes good but like.. bacon also tastes good, chicken nuggets also fucking taste good don't they??

  • it wouldn't be very scientific but it'd be nice to have a graph like this with co2equivalent per serving

  • we need to feed them corn and soybeans because people want lots and lots of meat, and that's the best way to get lots and lots of meat.

that's.. kinda why people advocate for eating less meat, so that there won't be such a powerful incentive to turbomaximize meat yields to meet the huge demand..

  • this is why i think chicken is the best meat, no other animal is so easy and normal to literally raise in your backyard, plus they can get a decent amount of their food from bugs and foodscraps

it's entirely feasible for basically everyone with a yard to own chickens and call the butcher when they get too old to lay eggs (or just near death), and this would make eggs basically free and meat very cheap, plus massive quantities of free fertilizer for farmers!

  • what precisely do you think robots exist for?

  • well driving is one of the most dangerous things you can do, but if you avoid roads with significant traffic and go slow it might be decently safe

  • the US federal government is literally a bunch of nazis, how on earth do you think that's going to be helping people?

  • hold on, hung over teenager you?

  • "Video capability to promote and drive sales" quite obviously refers to the big fucking display on the thing, it can play video ads.

  • i feel like if you worry about this you should just not eat out at all, ever

  • I cast Aspic!
