  • The Finnish word you have is also just 'shit' and in no way equivalent to 'cunt'. The word youre looking for is 'vittu', although it is usually (mis)translated as 'fuck'. The common translation is likely due to the prevalence of use of both 'fuck' and 'vittu' and their similar severity rather than meaning.

  • There are sports where women have reached or surpassed men's records, for example long-distance endurance races or some accuracy-based competitions. Anything where raw explosive strength or size isn't the main deciding factor. There are examples in history where women have been banned from participating in specific sports because they have been able to win in competition with men.

I think, for the leagues you listed, size, strength and speed are often key, and as such most men have an advantage over most women. I don't doubt there could be exceptions to that rule.

  • I swear I tested this a bunch, restarted the app several times, and it would not work. However, now that I started it again about 30 minutes later and tried to zoom, it works flawlessly.

I'll edit the post to let people know it's a user problem. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Image zoom does not work (edit: user problem, please ignore)

  • Most reindeer live North of the Arctic Circle, where the sun does not rise above the horizon in winter months. I suspect most summer days are brighter than the few hours of twilight the reideer get in December.

  • Ah. Well, perhaps I ought to amend it to an average Northern European, then. There are definitely no true scorpions in the Nordics, although we probably have some tiny pseudoscorpids around somewhere. Although I've hiked all over Southern Spain and never spotted a scorpion there either.
...which probably says more about my perceptiveness or lack-there-of than anything else.

    /edited for spelling

  • Huh. There being scorpions everywhere except the Arctic is such a wild statement to your average European. Never have I ever seen a scorpion outside a terrarium despite having traveled and hiked extensively in various countries around the continent.

Are they truly that common in the Americas, even in more temperate climates?

  • No one.

Our one-year-old pup was genuinely upset about having to sleep in the same room as us on a weekend trip to the countryside.

At home he sleeps in the study and kicks up a fuss if anyone disturbs him by existing in 'his' room after 10 pm.

  • Another Finn here.

Crate-training itself is not illegal in Finland. There are, however, requirements for crate size and limits on how long a dog can be kept in a crate.

My one-year-old pup is crate trained and had enforced crated naps as a puppy. He is a very active breed that tends to have trouble managing their own excitement level, especially when young. These days the crate sits open and the pup elects to sleep in it most nights, and sometimes during the day if he wants to be left alone.

In addition, he has a collision-tested car crate that keeps him safe while traveling. He treats it like his puppy crate and just snoozes through most drives.

I don't see an issue with crate training if it is done with the dog's needs in mind. Crate is not a convenient storage to keep your pet in, and a dog should not be left crated for an entire work day. They need space and enrichment in their days to be happy and healthy.

  • I feel like, for many, the choice isn't voting for Trump if they're disillusioned with Biden, but just not voting for Biden. I'm aware the result of inaction is likely the same as voting for Trump, but cognitively it's easier to stomach.

  • I mean.. if you play video games for hours and hours, your brain will likely learn to play videogames better? Sure. I hardly see a correlation to mass murder here.

If you believe that action repetition is to blame for rewiring people's brains to be more efficient at mass murder, why not blame the military, or hell, why not just start picketing outside your local airsoft or paintball places?

edit: he'll into hell. I blame autocorrect.

  • aww @lemmy.world

My puppy might be part bat.

  • I'm not the person you're replying to, but I do recall Lorenz being caught in a lie and trying to cover it with stealth-edits. She has definitely had her (and her publisher's) agenda take precedent over facts back when she was covering the Depp/Heard trial.

However, while I do try to verify her reporting from other sources, I would not classify her anywhere near the imploding egomaniac billionaire. She's way better than any billionaire, because there's no way anyone can amass that amount of resources and not be selfish, problematic, and too far removed from ordinary people to relate to them.

  • They're quite unique. They're a lot more tart and bitter than raspberries, with an after taste similar to that of some particularly tangy craft sour beers. The seeds are also larger, but the slight crunch is actually very satisfying.

The flavour is not universally loved, though, and especially children often prefer cloudberries with a heaping of sugar.

  • FoodPorn @lemmy.world

Finnish squeaky cheese with fresh cloudberries and cream

  • All right, good to know it's not just me! I hope it'll be implemented soon, as I really like the wefwef interface in general.

I suppose it's not too much of a bother to pop into my instance through the browser every now and again just to block a bunch of things.

  • wefwef @lemmy.world

    Blocking communities through wefwef

  • I'm not sure if I'm just technologically challenged, but I can't seem to find a way to log into wefwef from a smaller instance. Does it only support the big four?

//edit: Turns out you can only pop in as a guest from the bigger instances. You can log in to any instance, and I'm just dumb.
