  • Yep, and what boundaries constitutes a church, synagogue, mosque or place of worship these days, and why is one religion tax free, yet a philosophical movement is not? To whom is respon$ible for making these institutions exempt of taxation? I for one would be a proud supporter of a church that actually upholds the tenants of biblical teachings, and also follows in the footsteps of those morals, but it's all just a sad sad part of modern day capitalism. This Pastor is a hero and should be heralded as such.

  • I've been using iask.ai or Phind.com for mostly quick answers to my simple questions, these get me by but I'm no coder or author and I have noticed these options are often pretty terrible for math queries.

Edit: the above services I'm pretty sure are not open source, but their privacy policies seem reasonable.

  • Not really a win for the casual web user - What Google will stop doing is selling web ads targeted to individual users’ browsing habits, and its Chrome browser will no longer allow cookies that collect that data for the means of selling to third party advertisers.

Meanwhile, Google will still track and target users on mobile devices, and it will still target ads to users based on their behavior on its own platforms, which make up the majority of its revenue and won’t be affected by the change.

Ad companies that rely on cookies will simply have to find another way to target users.

  • Lately I've been using more AI-derived search engines, I often need a direct answer to a certain problem, and not looking for a date specific answer. I haven't used Google search for years, DDG is my daily driver but engines derived from chat GPT work for me. This is when I have a specific problem like when say building a recipe, or trouble shooting a mechanical problem etc. I use ask.ai or phind.com

  • I second this, everytime I shut the mail app down or sleep my Mac the mail app prompts me to sign in again with my Gmail accounts. (could also be Google of course) - if anyone has a good suggestion for a better email client that supports ProtonMail bridge, I'd love to hear about it.
