  • Money is his accelerator, and for the longest time people have been willing to give him more. I get to experience this close up with my parents. That have nearly zero in the bank but give Broke Donny $100 this week and eat ramen every day, because he exhibits their values and is clearly smarter. 85 million other adults feel the same… it adds up.

And why level your deception when it’s working? In his mind this is a gamble that pays.

  • You can’t use big words here. The right that are smart enough to know the word destitute, know why they’re voting republican. Broke Donny would be my choice though. I already call him Donny or orange Jesus, to aggravate my parents when they start to talk about all the good he’s doing now. It’s Easter Sunday next week, I look forward to testing each variation.

  • Uh, no.

No state income tax, but those morons tax you for home ownership far more than some states. Electricity is more exp, even housing isn’t as cheap as it was 5 years ago. I paid more in property taxes in Texas than I pay here for property and state income on a house worth 3x what I had in Texass.

And where the hell in Texass are you saying has comparable weather with Colorado? Maybe south Colorado, or close to Kansas. But as a whole, texass weather has no match to anything as nice as Colorado weather.

Now the, that place is run by a corrupt bunch of fucktards.

  • Fund education for all for as long as they want it. Educating your populace means you will have a more skilled and more innovative workforce which will lead to better outcomes for everyone.

    This needs to be more.

Fix the education system to promote children. Feed and nurture them. Give them healthy foods to fuel their minds. Feed them 3x a day if needed. Stop allowing the people to decide if this should be covered by taxes.

Eliminate grade blocks (tiers, years, whatever) so kids that excel and not be hampered by kids that don’t want to be there. I was so bored until grade 5, then someone recognized my abilities and fostered them. I was the class clown and acted out because i was bored until I was shifted into a different class which was advanced in every way. If I show top grades, maybe I shouldn’t be held back because little Tommy the bully is a dipshit (he deserves to learn at his own pace).

In later years, remove redundant classes and replace with trades for students that are not excelling. Teach them viable skills. No one needs to have history classes in high schools, unless it serves a purpose. The only option for someone with zero skills should not be military school.

And for the love that is all wholly educational, pay our teachers so much better. Promote teachers that show drive (regardless of student year). Also mandate continuing education for them.

  • Inspired. I’m in the 45+ arena and just divorced after a number of decades together. I was worried about it until I realized that I (male) did all the cooking, cleaning and paid most bills. I paid for vacations, kids school events, groceries…. Even parenting was lopsided.

So my first date was just this tidal wave of insights into the shit I put up with. The gal just offered to have me come over and cook for me this weekend. I know she’s not the one, but damn does it feel good to just have someone else care.

  • My jr high required 1 semester of foreign language studies, and high school, 4 semesters. I think it also qualified as elective, so I was encouraged to take Spanish for all but my last year. I still understand a bit of conversation, but damn if I can carry a conversation after 30 years gap. It was rote memorization, so I can count to 15, and ask where the library is.

My high school teacher was also the math teacher. Old white male who has been to Mexico 3 times.

    ¿Donde esta la biblioteca?

  • Laying fibre is really expensive - in really rural areas it could be $100k+ per subscriber, so you will never see a return on investment for doing that

And yet, a local company in my state just ran fiber to 5000 homes in my area for what I told was 1 million. They used directional drilling, it was cheap and easy. Then all the sudden my local phone and cable company “also” put in fiber.

So while I’m in a suburb, I know for a fact these guys are all over the state and growing, including rural (and so is the local telco/cableco). I challenge that 100k number, that’s bullshit telco numbers. The word is unprofitable, it is unprofitable to run fiber when you are the only competitor.

  • Yeah, hit hard for sure. Now I’m stuck in a future where my EU goals force me to consider not dating till I’m there, or worse, be far more selective when dating local as now need to tell potential partners that I’m not staying in the USA. People think this sounds amazing, but it’s a whole life move.

    I hope you’re healing.

  • I was just in Roma last year for two months. I assure you, I had several women hit on me while out and about once I became a common patron of the local bar. I’m 6’, American and only slightly chubby. But that’s all I have going for me in looks, just average. And they could care less that I was American (except one girl). I was still happily (more like blindly) married at the time, so not much happened (divorce was the ex’s ask 3 days after we returned) and was using the bar for good views and language immersion.

You want to know my thoughts on why women there play hard to get: according to a few chats the men are often underemployed or have near zero prospects to be better than above poverty. and according to one woman, a guy she dated just wanted her to cook, clean, and have babies; yep, he just wanted a new mamma with privileges.

So while I was married and my situation unique, I expect woo’ing an Italian woman to be not as hard as you say. I volunteer to go back and test this theory.

Oh, and a slam to my ex. I dedicated 10 years of our much longer marriage to do her family research so she could get her Italian by blood citizenship. That trip was our celebration of obtaining it and to review areas for buying a house. I will now and forever just consider her a Parmesan snorting fake. It was Facebook bragging rights and shit more.

  • This was a decent OS, came about in BeOS 5 when they started to run on intel. Just lacked apps. at least OS/4 Warp could run Windows apps, this was just a brand new OS with nothing yet. Shame it died out, but you can run an inspired version of it called Haiku.
