  • Nukes. We know they have them and missiles to deliver them. Any situation where a wildcard like North Korea uses nukes in any offensive capacity is terrifying. "Nuclear War: A Scenario" is a great modern book on how things could go to hell if one single North Korean nuclear missile is launched towards the United States.

Artillery. In any case of open war on North Korea anyone within artillery range of the NK border will be bombarded with heavy shelling. Even if it lasted for just an hour or two before the batteries were eliminated the civilian casualties and destruction would be like a large natural disaster. Now imagine if chemical shells were added to the mix, because they have those too.

China has the most leverage to help North Korea on a humanitarian and diplomatic level without risking war, so if it could be done the best chance is through them.

  • Ukraine was invaded, twice, with Russia as the aggressor. That isn't Ukraine's fault and they have every right to kick Russian ass as long as it takes for Russia to pull out or negotiate. Both will be politically painful so the war goes on.

And if you're in a shooting war with Russia, who better to ask for weapons than the US? Even old outdated US equipment was designed to take on Soviet equipment so yeah you want them as friends to give your nation a fighting chance and prove to Russia and the international community that they won't be pushovers.

And look at NATO. They are bumping defense GDP to 5%. Finland, Poland, Estonia and others are withdrawing from agreements that forbid the placement of anti-personnel mines. Even if this war ends tomorrow, nobody seems to think Russia will be satisfied for long

  • Many people I know agree with deporting illegal immigrants and see it as a problem that had been simply ignored for far too long. I found an article talking about deportation flights as early as 2023 (I'll try to find and link it here, and here's one from 2024) so it's not brought on by the Trump admin, but he greatly expanded the scale and publicity.

There are disagreements though, mostly with how it's being carried out. If the agents are unidentifiable as feds some day someone is going to fight back, or a third party will intervene thinking they are getting mugged.

And there is a big lack of due process to make sure those arrested actually meet the criteria for deportation. No way they are all 100% legit with no mistakes. If everything is legit more due process and transparency shouldn't be an issue if your case is solid.

  • State govts can mobilize their national guard. The guard is the only military component that can be "deployed" on American soil for combat or civil support like riot control or disaster relief

Active duty and reserve bases exist in the US of course but are generally forbidden from being used for combat operations or enforcing domestic policies on US soil. It's called Posse Comitatus

Could Wisconsin even pull it off?

  • They do a lot of optimization for modern hardware like supporting wide screen resolutions. They fixed major show stopper bugs along with a ton of tiny fixes and added a lot of mod-like options in the settings.

For example it's a turn based game so your guys do everything based on "time units". In the base game it can be a big risk to peek around a corner, see an enemy and not have time to fire or even retreat back to safety. OpenXcom can show you how many time units you'll have left and in colors if you have enough time to shoot when you get there. Cool stuff!

The AI seems pretty true to vanilla but they put in a rule that you have at least one turn to get out of your drop ship without being fragged or rocketed by aliens. There are third party mods that make the aliens work as a team to sneak up or flank you. Those scare me so I haven't tried it yet lol
