  • I went with immortal, shape shift, and teleport.

There’s no range to the teleport listed, and I’m just going to assume that shape shift can alter biological function and not just the meaty outer covering.. but ultimately it doesn’t really matter that much because immortal.

This would be a great way to explore the universe and a search for life. Maybe settle down somewhere if you find an advanced society that sucks less than humans.

  • One proposal was to simply build the new incinerator in the same location as the old one. In fact, the county was prepared to do precisely that until they got a call from representatives of a certain disgraced former president (and now convicted felon). It seems the Doral country club is just 3 miles away and having a new modern trash incinerator close by was not acceptable. The county dutifully turned its attention to other locations.

Can’t be rebuilt where it was because Trump interfered due to being 3 miles from a country club.

Not homes, not workplaces or schools or parks, a rich people hangout.

Imho if it ends up closer to a residential area than it is now, the residents should destroy it repeatedly until it goes up right next to those fucking rich people.

Fuck rich people. They don’t deserve anything nice. Not a single fucking one of them.

  • I wonder if his brain is functional enough to know the difference between “shit I say for grift” and “shit I say because I want it”..

I guess we’ll know when he either follows through or doesn’t on all of it..

  • I don’t have android anymore so I can’t verify this for you, but I’m pretty sure voyager is available over there. The iOS version has user tags, so I assume android would as well.

If you go that route, I suggest enabling the feature to truncate username (remove instance information when there’s a tag, if you always show). Otherwise you won’t even know you have a tag, because it’s inline.

  • This is a really good information dense video, thanks for sharing!

Urban and suburban agriculture is definitely something we should focus on for long term habitability of our spaces. We probably should have been doing it the whole time but the second best time to start is now.

  • I feel gross upvoting this for visibility, so having done so, here’s some choice quotations from the article, for those who don’t want to read the whole thing, emphasis mine.

The bill, filed by state Sen. Mike Young (R), would make it a misdemeanor to prescribe or possess medication abortion, though it carves out an exception for pregnant people who already have the pills.

While all three bills offer a stated exception for someone imminently about to take the pills, this policy remains incredibly dangerous. After Donald Trump won reelection, consequently threatening access to abortion pills in all states, organizations like Plan C Pills called on pregnant-capable people to buy medication abortion in advance while you can, whether you’re pregnant or not. These laws could criminalize this.

Indiana’s same, wide-reaching bill, SB 171, would also make it illegal for organizations like abortion funds to pay for or subsidize the costs of medication abortion, and would give Indiana’s attorney jurisdiction over criminal cases involving medication abortion should local prosecutors decline to prosecute these cases.

And, in an especially cruel feature of SB 171, it would further narrow the rape exception attached to the state’s existing abortion ban, requiring that if a survivor wants an abortion, they have to provide their doctor with an affidavit and potentially face perjury penalties for supposed false reports.

SB 171 also comes as more and more anti-abortion lawmakers are targeting the mere act of helping someone access abortion, whether through legal threats or lawsuits against abortion funds, or bills to criminalize helping someone travel across state lines for care. The goal is transparently to trap as many people as possible under abortion bans.

  • These concerns, and more, are why just today, during a conversation with some friends looking to get off traditional social media, I advised them to join pixelfed, peer tube, mastodon, and loops, but suggested they strictly avoid Lemmy.

The communities aren’t right for anyone who isn’t seeking something exactly like Lemmy or leftie-Reddit-lite. I don’t even really like it here all that much anymore. Not the content; the interactions… across all my accounts.. even joining “nicer” spaces is not a particularly nice or pleasant experience, plus the more interested is a woman, and Lemmy is a horrible sausagefest echo chamber not at all suited to a normal average woman person who isn’t techie. I’m techie, so I’m used to the vibe, but for your average cis-woman, Lemmy is a very very bad fit.

Bring on the downvotes if you like (the echo-chamber anti-voice sentiment is part of why people shouldn’t be recommended this platform, after all) but these are legit concerns for people who may want to join, and those of us already here can and do steer people elsewhere as a result.

  • I mean sure, if you look at the average citizenry. But if you look at the goals, it’s no surprise you are disappointed.

I’m a (non-combat, undeployed, medically discharged) veteran, and tbh I regretted it within a few years of joining up because I realized a lot of things. And it’s really the same thing as civic participation. We are sold a myth, and over time realize the truth is that the people we have to pick from don’t share the same ideals we were led to believe they would have.

So I totally agree with you, but our current crop are, indeed, unAmerican regardless of what the population has been led to believe is totally fine.

  • Because the options you get to pick from are also unamerican. And you get to choose between supporting unamerican and supporting facism. And that’s not a choice that leads one to patriotism.

  • I guess I haven’t really had the smelly problem (or at least nobody has mentioned it..). I have to use unscented detergents due to fragrance allergy, and I think thats a big part of why I don’t have that problem. The scented detergents leave so many residues to hold the scent that your own scent tends to stick more. Or maybe you just notice it more as it mingles with a scent you are used to. Not sure, but the unscented stuff at worst smells a bit musty.

When I get deodorant buildup or the musty smell, I do a warm cycle with enzyme detergent (usually wash on tap cold, but when I do a warm cycle I use dirty labs unscented enzyme detergent. I’ve tried others, including scented, before I found that and they worked decently too) and it clears right up.

If you have the smelly problem with bedsheets or towels or anything, look into laundry stripping. You can do it with natural cotton and whatever clothing as well, but it requires super hot water so it does cause some damage to the fabric.

  • Considering I buy clothes every few years at most, still have clothes from middle school and I’m almost 40, generally don’t throw stuff out when it starts getting worn just repurpose it, and recently started buying almost exclusively athletic clothing due to build and material quality, probably a really long time tbh.

I also don’t usually wear clothes at home, which helps. Bathrobe. I have five of those.

I’d bet I could survive the bulk of my remaining life without getting new clothes, but they’d be in rough shape by then.

Here’s an archive link if you are blocked due to Adblock blocker (for me, according to the popup, it was html-load specifically). It took forever to archive despite being a super short article, due to all the ads and plugins and stuff.

  • I’m with you except diapers. Those are medically necessary items and I wouldn’t want to deny people medical necessities, even if they are a shit heel and deserve to have shit heels.

Even if it is Trump. That’s just inhumane.

But, to be clear, there’s zero reason to provide nice ones. Give him the big bulky one-size-fits-all hospital ones, which make his jumpsuit poof out and make plastic crinkle noises every time he breathes. Hit him where it really hurts: the pride.

  • I drove home last night around midnight in super thick fog going through a few cities on the way, and I really enjoyed it.

There wasn’t a lot of traffic, but the fog did reduce the spikiness and glare of headlights (very soothing filter), acted as an IRL Adblock because it was hard to read billboards without trying, and the diffusion of overhead and tail lights highlighted the actual road making it easier to see the road far ahead.

It’s a lot weirder walking through it as it swirls around you though. When I was stationed in Monterrey ca, the fog would roll in down the steep sloping roads, it was super surreal, it would follow after you if you were headed down into town.

  • Depends heavily what you are interested in.

What sort of thing have you watched and enjoyed?

However, for more general-purpose, less super well known (as far as I’m aware), recommendations, I really enjoyed:

    • wolfboy and the everything factory (big owl house/amphibia vibes)
    • invincible fight girl (just came out)
    • Gary and his demons
    • kite man hell yeah
    • exploding kittens
    • Carol and the end of the world
    • unicorn warriors eternal
    • pantheon
    • little demon
    • disventure camp season 1 (2 is… meh)
    • camp camp
    • centaurworld
    • monsters at work
    • elliot from earth
    • glitch techs
    • hazbin hotel
    • undone
    • infinity train
    • human discoveries (dumb but enjoyable)
    • hilda
    • ugly americans

I’m gunna arbitrarily stop here, I have a lot more recs if those don’t suit your taste, as those are mostly just things that have come out since 2019.
