I worked at a rehab center as a housekeeper. Im not an addict was just looking for a job and mom was working there st the time so easy in. For three months I was the only housekeeper for a 3 story mansion with 30 rooms. I did the best I could and dramatically improved the condition of the whole facility. Full time 2nd shift including weekends. I was payed less than McDonalds but I was effectively my own boss and as long as I got done what I needed to was free to spend my time how I saw fit so I accepted the low pay and shit work knowing it was a temporary thing. Over the months they kept 'one more thing'ing me with the worst being moving the dumpster 500ft to the back o he parkinglot and expecting me to haul a broken wagon full of trash multiple times a day. Kept promising they would hie me help but never got any. I took all the extra responsibility I could and was essentially a one man army.
Yet my boss treated me worse and worse to the point of trying to chew me out for taking a break. I am an etremely timid person who hates conflict and argument but something finally snapped in me. that was the first time in my life I ever stood up for myself and told his ass how it was. I can tolerate low pay, I can tolerate just one more things, I can tolerate mentally ill clients, but one thing I dont tolerate is being talked down to and disrespected by my peers. I told him all that, that he was a boss to me in name only and that we were equals in this shit show, that I am not his bitch boy and to never speak to me like that again unless he wants to find a new housekeeper on the spot. He apologized and admitted to not treating me right as he has been super stressed out which I can understand.
I later quit when they denied me a few days of PTO when my foot got sprained. Fuck that! Funnily enough they magically found another housekeeper weeks after, and played them even less than what they paid me lol
I have finally proudly reached a point of mental maturity where I can tell people how it is if they push me far enough without fear, and to understand that no amount of money is worth my dignity and mental health.
Instantly moving any kind of mass in the context of physics means moving it super close to the speed of light (well actually, it would have to be faster than the speed of light for truely instant which opens up a can of worms all its own so lets just say really really close to instant, as close as the universe lets you get without inviting FTL time paradoxes) which would impart insane amounts of momentum energy that has to transfer to the air it pushes.
That supercharged almost-speed-of-light air needs to go somewhere (unless were talking about the kind of teleportation where atoms get transposed into each other in which you just skip to the nuke step).
The pocket of air that was where you teleported now get displaced at a very decent fraction of the speed of light while the pocket of space you once ocupied becomes a almost pure vaccum. the air moves so fast it creates a sonic boom that ruptures the ear drums. Then, a few atoms of air collide together with such incredible force the atoms split and causes a small grade nuclear explosion.
I do have some level of sympathy for the fish but also recognize I'm a little more sympathetic to non-human life than most people. I can't bring myself to kill insects without a good reason (except ticks and mosquito) not even ants. Whenever my parents would cut down a tree on their property I grieve for the life of the trees lost just because my dad fell off one as a kid and has a subconscious hatred for them now (yes he even admitted to me this was the case) I even feel some guilt about cutting grass and mulching the occasional bee.
I've worked a seasonal job giving medical care to dairy cows, once you see just how poorly farmers treat them and how horrific their short lives are its hard not to feel bad for them. Farmers make standard animal cruelty cases look like mild neglect by comparison. The only blessing is that modern cows have been selectively bread to become so docile as to be almost braindead.
I'm cool with eating animals, the cycle of life and all that, but in trade we can at least try to give them decent lives that aren't so fucking awful from birth to death. Like it or not even fish have some level of intelligence and most likely emotional capacity. same with farm animals, trees, mushrooms, insects, and probably even the microorganisms to some degree. To think we are special and the only feeling lifeforms on the planet out o billions just cause the thinky thinky parts of our brain are a little bit bigger than most is just stupid and a very human-centric idea that strokes our own collective ego in a manifest destiny kind of way.
Yes I know I'm wierd but maybe the world needs a few people like me who care a little too much about non-human suffering.
If Bluetooth isnt an option WiFi most likely will work. Just make sure your device is connected to the network and hopefully the printer will show up as a network device
Those kind of darker 'realistic' shows have a very cynical view of human nature where people are inherently bad and the social contract is what keeps us at bay from becoming monsters. I dont agree with that assessment (though I did as an edgy teenager)
The rich and powerful act the was they do not because they can but because they have nothing to strive for. IMO people require a certain amount of conflict and struggle in order to truly attain happiness and a fulfilling life. You also need to learn new skills to have fresh experiences.
See this excellent documentary on the mouse utopia experiments.
You cant really appreciate success until you've failed miserably and earned it through blood sweat and tears. If you live your whole life being too rich to fail, and get everything you've ever wanted without having to work and struggle for it, then you eventually run out of things to want and life becomes hollow. Food looses its taste, drugs no longer get you high, regular and even kinky sex looses its appeal, luxury and convinence becomes meaningless as does social status. The only thing left is the thrill of depravity.
Time powers wouldn't make a normal person with proper life goals and average moral values instantly go off the deep end. Only people who think money and power buys happiness.
It might become the default a little later on, they want to make sure it works ok first as an experimental feature before pushing it as a default would be my guess.
Copyrighted stuff was originally meant to expire after 30 years when the system first started after which it becomes public domain like all the books over at project Gutenberg. Just enough time for inventors and makers to capitalize on their creations but not enough time for them to sit on that creation forever which pressures further invention within a lifetime.
However Disney did not like this one bit. Mickey mouse was simply too iconic branding for them to loose to the public. So instead they spent many many many millions of dollars lobbying politicians to get the expiration date extended practically indefinitely. Now its the lifetime of the original author + 80 years after IIRC (edit: its actually lifetime +70 years)
Copyright has stalled so severely that the latest works to come into public domain are from the 19th century. Edit: its actually early 20th century
Emplemon did an excellent video about just how screwed up copyright has become, I highly recommend you give it a watch
Electric heated clothing is pretty great. USB heated clothes can only accept 10 watts a piece which isnt alot of but its suprisingly enough to keep you warm. Very energy efficent. They make more powerful electric jackets that run on power tool batteries too which are considerably more powerful. The limit to heated clothing is obviously how big a battery you can carry with you but even a 10 watt usb heated clothing has incredible amounts of CLO units (the scientific unit of measurement for the amount of insulation a particular piece of clothing provides
Layers are super important, thermal underwear (pants and shirt) will go miles in keeping you warm. Same with putting on multiple layers of pants, shirts, and jackets. Certain materials are better than others but at the end of the day every piece of clothing you manage to stack is added insulation regardless of material. Plastic synthetic materials beat most natural plant fibers in insulative property. The only natural fibers that really come close is wool.
Wool stuff is generally very good at keeping you warm but it can have a bit of a texture, requires some care when washing, sheds quite a bit, and it has a certain smell you have to adapt to or try really hard to wash out.
If your job just involves a lot of standing like a traffic signaller then you can probably get away with wearing a double puffy blanket as a cloak which will also help tons. I love my double puffy its great.
If you are dealing with fuck-you levels of cold well below freezing it may be worth getting a snowmobile suit, I've heard those are incredibly insulating.
Read this article by lowtechmagazine its full of really good info on keeping yourself warm.
Blood probably isnt even in the top 5 worst bodily excretements that book has had on it that year. Literally nobody is going to care about teeny red spot on page 231. Dont worry about it.
