I didn’t know the answer to this so I looked it up - yes. Over 120 Db can cause damage even if it’s ultrasonic and you can’t hear it. Apparently at 155Db the heat created by the sound wave can be dangerous as well.

In an ultrasonic frequency we can’t hear. But your pets and any nearby bats or rodents etc may be upset by it..

What you’re looking for is a 2 channel temperature data logger, but it might be cheaper to just buy 2 single channel ones (a really brief search shows some for like $30)

It depends on the species. It’s one thing to neuter a giraffe but if you have a flock of peacocks or a colony of 40 bats you are probably not going to do surgery on all of them, it’s also very hard on some of the smaller animals. Making an effort to keep only females or males would be an option for some species but not all, as they won’t always show their full range of behaviour.

The article does point out a lot of it is small rodents, but also things like tadpoles or fish. It can be extremely difficult to control their breeding (or even identify their sex without cutting them open) yet detrimental to their welfare to allow them to be overstocked. The real solution here is probably not invasive birth control techniques (even restraining an animal to pill them can be very taxing), it is more effort to share surplus animals with other zoos, wildlife refuges, wild release etc with particular attention to those that are prone to being culled. But again, transport is a huge stressor for animals, so you have to consider that the potential benefit to them should be more than the risk of worse welfare.

Best: helping the animals, improving their living conditions and treatment, giving them toys and treats

She needs the mileage. Really truly needs it. Take her somewhere walking where there aren’t other dogs as soon as your vet clears it. If your vet has cleared it already your own worry is not worth depriving her of this

I agree with you completely. I made my guess because they usually mention if a bear had cubs present during an attack, but it is an oversimplification to say the bear decided to see people that way for sure. All I meant by it is, once a bear is triggered into overcoming that fear or wariness and attacking/killing and possibly eating a human, there is a higher risk of them doing so again (unsurprisingly, if the behaviour was successful from the bear’s perspective).

It is a very arrogant and anthrocentric approach. I don’t condone it but I also don’t expect anything better (such as reducing human encroachment into their territory) because I am rightfully(?) jaded.

Going outside into the backyard every day for hours isn’t enough, at least not for her breed - your older beagle probably cares less. Dogs need actual walks, out to new places. Big hour long ones.

She needs more walks outside into interesting places where she can see new things and smells etc. The best way to deal with this is tiring her out with significant physical activity. Swimming is good and she should like that for her breed. Just being tied on a lead all day by herself in the same old yard is not enough. They don’t need to go to an actual dog park, but they need real walks!!

Also, golden doodles are known to be stubborn idiots.

Banff is an extremely busy park so unless they are willing to close that trail/bear’s territory to the public, there aren’t a lot of other good options. If the bear has decided people are a threat/food, relocating it would also be difficult and may introduce some liability.
