  • Desert blues! In the 90s, a lot of Tuareg musicians living in the western part of the Sahara, especially some that met while serving in the Libyan army or fighting in the 1990 rebellion in Mali, started combining Western blues and rock music with their own folk music. This has turned into a full-fledged genre of its own which I think anyone keen on guitar-based music has a good chance of enjoying. Here's Tamikrest playing a set https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maXW66vz26g

  • No, unless something is very wrong. I don't know if that was maybe a bigger problem with older devices though. I remember being taught to turn the socket off before plugging things in or taking them out when I was a kid

  • I can possibly see an argument that "artist" isn't an essential job because people make loads of art when it's not their job anyway. Nobody's doing telemarketing as their hobby

However I very much doubt that this was the actual context for whatever this graphic was trying to show

  • The Dutch-from-Holland thing is basically a quirk of the historical relationship between England and the Netherlands. Originally the English referred to all continental Germanic people as Dutch (from Deutsch, of course). Then the Netherlanders started to become a distinct group quite separate from other Germans. However, England had way more contact with the Netherlanders, who were both geographically closer and also a huge naval presence in the seas around England, so the name stuck to them instead of the Germans

  • I read the whole conversation, including the bits where you got mad at the other person for their source not being good enough, and then also their other sources for being in German, while providing literally zero sources of your own.

I even agree Hitler did, very occasionally and often for bad reasons, do a couple of actually good things. Like arming Ethiopia against the Italians. But nobody asked you to use Hitler as an example and the question absolutely did not require it. Fucking hell you could have even picked Winston Churchill deciding to lead the fight againt the Nazis, he was a Conservative. I'm bringing it up because I think it illustrates that maybe your judgement on anything about the Nazis isn't that reliable

  • It must be infuriating to work for whoever makes these decisions. I don't think I would ever actually email them about anything because there'd be no way I could possibly trust that the reply I get is actually something they wrote

  • That sounds fascinating! I'm pretty tolerant of jank in games if they're doing something engaging, and while I do enjoy the combat systems of the Souls games I am totally okay with a more abstracted system. Hell I love Paradox's grand strategy games, and this sounds a lot like how battles work in those — the meaningful decision is in which fights you pick and how you prepare for them rather than your actions within the fight itself.
