  • Roosevelt ran for president on his own Progressive ticket, which became known as the Bull Moose Party after the former president joked that he felt “as strong as bull moose.” Democrat Woodrow Wilson won that November’s election, but Roosevelt came in second, winning 88 electoral votes compared to just 8 for Taft, the incumbent.

Ok, imagine being so unpopular that you not only lose the vote as an incumbent, but you also lost to a third party candidate, and only got 8 votes in the electoral college

  • There's a lot of crapping on Boeing here, and don't get me wrong, they've earned the criticism. However, I'd be very surprised if this incident wasn't actually traced back to maintenance issues with the airline.

If course, that was also my thought when i first heard about the plug door, and it lasted up until I learned the plane was so new it likely hadn't even been through it's first A check.

  • We are commodities

We exist to be bought and sold

    By the ruling class

I have been bought and sold

    Many many times

    But only my thoughts

    And identity

    And words

    And face

    So that's okay

I'll just scroll other stolen thoughts

On a phone built by an eight year old

    Who was bought

    And sold

    Half a world away

  • Does this mean Tales From the Stinky Dragon is shutting down too? While it's not the best DnD actual play, it's still pretty great. And i still hold out hope that Gustavo brings back Black Box Down some day

Edit: nvm i read the article and the podcasts are staying

  • The Babysitter's Here - Dar Williams

Told from the perspective of a little kid, the emotions are just so immediate. I could go on about how nuanced the lyrics and emotion are but man, such a great song.

Runner up: Murder In the City - Avett Brothers

Man, that line: "Make sure my sister knows I loved her", in the past tense, oof

  • One of two things will happen.

The show runners will stay true to the source material and a bunch of people will complain that it isn't original and Cyberpunk 2077/Bladerunner/[insert franchise here] did it first. Completely unaware that Neuromancer did it first.

    Or

The show runners will use Neuromancer as "inspiration" and write their own story, to better (Foundation) or worse (Ring of Power) results. Either way, fans of the original work will complain that the show isn't faithful to the source.

tl;dr: No matter what they do, someone will be vocally upset

  • I long long time ago I was working on my first BIG construction project. A safety coordinator came up to me and told me to put on my safety glasses before cutting… something, i don't remember what.

Now this guy was real chill, and had an easy manner about him. He didn't yell and scream to get his way, and i was a young 20 years old and headstrong as any young man could be. He says something that changed my line and probably saved my eyes more than once. Imagine a 5'nothing pissy kid pushing back against wearing safety glasses and this 6'5" man with the kindest eyes and a slight smile reaching out, putting a hand on the shoulder, and saying: "Bro, I don't know about you, but when I'm with my girl, I want to see ev-ry-thing.

I paused for a good ten seconds, nodded, and have always worn my safety glasses since

  • It's a cross-industry term. Construction, factory production, food services, just about any manual labor industry uses "safety culture" to describe a dominant attitude of life safety above all other priorities. Just because you haven't heard it before doesn't mean it's not common. In fact, if you do manual labor and you haven't heard it, be very concerned about the environment you work in
